Chapel of Sacred Mirrors

So I just got done watching the documenatary on the Vicarious DVD (which is pretty awesome, much better extras than parbola and schism) and saw Alex Grey has an art gallery in NYC called the chapel of sacred mirrors. They do a quick pan around of it on the DVD and it looks fucking awesome. I'm heading to NYC soon to visit some friends and was going to check it out. I was just wondering if anyone has been there and what they thought.

There are a few Shroomerites here that have frequented that venue. Given the reports to which I've been privy, it sounds very nice.

I go there a lot...a great spot, to be sure.

it's a wonderful gallery, one of the best displays and use of space i've seen. it's defintely a spiritual place with visual information everywhere. I grew a whole new appreciation for Alex Grey's work once i actually saw the paitings up close and personal. It's defintely an experience.and a nice place to party sometimes. Enjoy!

CoSM is absolutely amazing.
I went there recently, and I was quite simply blown away.
For quite some time I'd been a fan of Alex Grey, but only through the internet. Never actually saw any of his work in real life.
Let me tell you, the low-res, low-detail photos floating around the web don't do any of his paintings justice. There is an implied depth and copious amounts of compulsive-level detail that you just can't experience through what's available on the net.
If you can get there, I definitely recommend it. I think CoSM is something everyone should see, even if they're not all that into spirituality and psychedelia.
In short, it's truly a transformative life experience.

Me and alteredagain spent new years at the chapel I took a video of the countdown with my cellphone.
That was allyson speaking, and they also gave out sparkling apple cider for the toast...although me and altered poured something special into our cider

I got to see the CoSM a few months ago, and I'm very glad I did. I should warn you, there aren't many pieces there that haven't already been shown in books, etc. But seeing the paintings you love in full size, full detail really makes a difference.

I just found out Alex Grey was from ohio (joins good company with maynard) w00t!
I just finished watching the vicarious documenatary (its fairly long) and alex grey talks about building a tool shrine at the end, that would be fucking awesome. I don't know what painting it is but they do a close up of one that has a crucified jesus in a mushroom cloud I really wanna check that out up close, it was fucking awesome.
Also for those who have been there, I see they have special events on full and half moons, what exactly do these events entail?

They're smaller gatherings that include meditation sessions and encourage creative participation. I have yet to go to one of these, but I frequent the salons nearly every month.

You and I should go to one of the lunar ceremonies, I've never gone for lack of a buddy to go with.
