Simple. Eliminate the perlite!

are you telling him he should get rid of some of the perlite, or just use a different setup that doesnt use perlite?

I have recently been wonndering the same thing, if one must go with perlite, is it best when casing to just fan more after pinning to drp the humidity?

or has anyone used say a perlite and fish tank bubbler combo and been able to control the humidity any better then say perlite alone??

What I'm saying is remove the perlite entirely.

Casings fruit best at 80-85% humidity (which they can supply on their own) as opposed to pf tek cakes which require 99% humidity and need an external source of water to provide it.

I just assumed he meant he was using his cakes to spawn casings.
(because he mentioned needing to lower the humidity)
If he was talking about just double ended casing of cakes, then nevermind... Just keep the high humidity.

Are you getting confused or discouraged and impatient with all that??? Well thats what happens with perlite....with perlite you get nice 100%RH......If you get rid of the perlite you will have the 80%-85%Rh that you want......Perlite is awsome for str8 cakes ok, but for casings you need to work a bit harder......its worth it because you get more mushrooms.....So anyways, my advise is getting a bare terrarium and mist, buy a new terrarium, or empty that perlite......thats my advice.....worked for me.....sucks hey? Perlite is messy ....id just get a "Seperate fruiting chamber" that is bare.....only 12-20$

WOW!! I'd love to sell you some tubs at that price! I'd make a fortune!

Wal-Mart sells Sterilite tubs (58 quart size) for $3.89 each.

While your casings will raise the humidity of the chamber, all that water is COMING OFF OF THE CASING, which means you have to mist more (introducing contams, possibly damaging fragile bits of the mycelium, etc).

What my cat does is use a fish tank air pump for air exchange, puts the airstone under the perlite, and puts the pump in a filter box (to filter out contams).

This seems to keep a good amount of supplemental humidity in the box while constantly introducing small amounts of fresh (dry) air. Just gotta add water to the perlite a little more often.
