they want to share? Or a friends I guess. Or just anything interesting to say about NDE's. They say NDE's occur when all brain functioning stops, which means there's something more to life that science hasn't proven yet but I think is on the right track..

YOUR life may stop. Your physical is no longer functioning, but that doesn't mean that life stops. Who knows what happens to the mind, soul, consciousness?

Nobody. SO why jump into conclusions? By the information we have until now, we stop living when our brain stops functioning. None of us here died to know if there's something beyond, and making assumptions doesn't help with anything.

That's why I'm asking those who have had first-hand experiences with an NDE.

but saying that everything just stops is also an assumption. it's a very limiting way to think.

NDE = near death experiences, not death experiences. Near death as in close to dying, but not quite. This is EXACTLY why I said that one can't have just and NDE when all their brain functions stop. One dies when this happens.

I said that we don't know, but all the evidence that we have until now points towards the theory that LIFE stops when our brain stops functioning. Also there is no evidence to sustain the existence of a soul. Considering all that is NOT a limiting way to live, it only gives a better perspective on what we know, on what is reliable.

In the physical realm that we are now in. I have to assume that every one else on this forum has had similar experiences that I have leaving the body. We have barely begun to scratch the surface of understanding our minds and what our minds can hold. So obviously there is no evidence of what happens to our consciousness, but saying that life stops when brain stops... it's NOT as simple as that.

agreed, but I also agree w/ MushroomTrip in that he/she(r u a guy or girl?) states that we shouldn't be so adamant on things that have yet to be proven. But there are many many reports out there who have experienced this phenomena that are 100% sure that their experience was real. But obviously it doesn't mean it is real..but maybe it really was and they know it so who gives a fuck what other people may say.

who is to say what is real? With our technology, the only things we CAN prove are physical, but who is to say that is all that is real? I completely understand the concept, but science has yet to grasp the mind, which is just as real as anything else.

Where are you trying to get with that? Personally I had lost of experiences like that. Still it doesn't prove that there is life after death. I am well aware of the fact that our minds are extremely complex and that we are highly suggestible. Do you take the things you see when you trip as being real or do you consider them a product of your mind? A projection of your feelings and thoughts and symbols to the inner world?

Because this is what we KNOW. Because it's important to discern between what exists and what could exist. This is a philosophy forum and making this delimitation is imperative if we want to understand each other and make some sense of what is happening. Bringing into discussion the existence of life after the brain stops functioning, angels, demons, fairies and all the rest is very entertaining and also can be the trigger to incredibly blissful experiences but have no validation. If you want to talk about these things without having them subject to critical thinking, I suggest that you visit the M&P forum.

I personally haven't experienced a NDE, but one of my best friends has who is deathly allergic to bee stings.
She always carries around these shots in case she gets stung, but this day she had forgot. She was dead for about a minute and she earnestly believes 100% that she experienced that whole white light deal that everyone keeps talking about. She says that this white light gradually encompassed her more and more and she felt herself drifting off somewhere.
She doesn't think it was heaven or anything like that, but something beyond her comprehension. She does think that life continues after death in some strange shape or form.
Haha, that was a really vauge answer. It didn't happen to me and she had a hard time understand it herself.
-Cheers

Near death experiences occur when your brain produces DMT to help you relax, thats why some claim to see god or whatever might comfort them.

Stating that my opinions don't belong in this forum just shows how much you're closing them off. how do you KNOW what you know? Just because you don't KNOW something doesn't mean it's not there. I think the only difference of what exists and what could exist is if it exists in THIS reality. I think what exists in the mind is still existing, on another level, alternate reality, (whatever words you choose to describe this) etc.
i will have to consider this later because there is a knock on my door.

I've ODed and my breathing completely stopped for ~20 seconds.
Nothing happened, it was just like going to sleep.
Quite dissapointed. Perhaps you need to COMPLETELY die before something "special" (heh) happens.
