No offense, but a shaman and a powerful psychedelic drug aren't what he needs.

i saw a few documentaries about ayahuasca also red some books. you both might be right. on one hand it can heal, on the other hand it can make you mad (not exactly sure for howlong).
soulcircus, seems like you was in contact with a shaman. did he mention something about the second possibility? it kind of happened to me but with mushrooms.
lysergicide, i would definitly not drink ayahuasca w/o a person who knows what has to be done. the pharmacetical mediacation usualy does not fix the cause of the problem but could help you out of the worst but you would have to deal with the real cause anyway.

Sorry this post is a little late. But I think that a big contributor to you thinking your are depressed is because you think about it all the time, or too much. Stop thinking about your self so deeply and get a girl friend. Get a job, try to do well in school. Start playing a sport, you know, occupy your time. Don't just spend all of it just thinking about your self.
I don't know you, but I do know many depressed people that I have helped through their problems without using all these drugs that the Psychiatrists try to prescribe or SSRI's... Humans have existed for so long in perfect harmony with them selves and nature, and I don't think all of a sudden humans NOW have to start doing all these drugs and shit (Zoloft, Prozac, ect...) to get better.
I think it is society making you feel you are depressed. Just who gives a shit and be happy mate. There is nothing stopping you except your self!

I agree with hopi in this situation. A healthy degree of scepticism is in order when dealing with prescription medications. In this day and age the solution for many mental problems seems to be to feed people drugs and not actually address the root cause. Psychiatrists, I hate to say it, are not much more than drug pushers for pharmaceutical companies.
(caveat) This is a generalisation of course and some people do have serious chemical imbalances that need to be rectified by a medication, however I'm pretty sure that over prescription is rampant.
In my personal experience when I was going through a pretty bad bout of depression I saw a psychiatrist and my perspective has been tainted ever since. I told the psychiatrist that I was depressed and wanted to work some things out with her and her reaction was pretty much, "You have depression, let's get you on some SSRIs" in which I kept telling her I wasn't interested. She was uncomfortably pushy about the matter.
If you really want to conquer your problems I'd recommend not going the medication route as it's like putting a band-aid over a gunshot wound.

hi lysergic,
I agree with virus that most shrinks will most definitely try their damndest to get you on a pill, regardless if you think you need them or not. Same thing happened to me.My physician prescribed me zoloft when i was just 18 because of mild depression related to a rough break up with a girl i loved. Typical teenage angst. He talked it up to be some kind of "miracle" cure for my affliction. I was pretty bummed out and slacking off in school, so after a bit of coaxing from my mom and doctor, i agreed to try.
What he failed to mention whilst pitching the product to me, was how addictive they are and all the horrible side effects they can cause.
True, they do help many people who are at the end of their rope and need a way out. And not everyone has the problems that i had with them, but to this day i have dependency issues because of the year i spent on SSRIs. The Withdraws are horrible if you use for that long. Man, I thought i was depressed before taking those pills. The 'coming off' stage put me deeper in depression than i was before medication.
Just a friendly warning to consider when deciding. Best of luck to you man. Maybe talking with someone is all you need.
