smaller shrooms Pics!

I'm getting small shrroms off of my 3 casings. I did rye cased 50/50 with verm/coir. 2 of the casings are about 6" diameter and 6" deep. One is about 8" diameter and 8" deep. All my casings have a thick sub. layer so I don't think that's an issue. I'm using perlite for humidity and I fan by hand. I have used the same FC for cakes and a thinner casing before and didn't have this problem. I searched through some posts but I didn't find anything that pertained to my situation. Any help/advice is appreciated.
Thanks, Tyler Durden

Small shrooms are usually the result of a dry susbtrate or low humidity.
Since u have had good results from cakes perhaps your substrate is dry. Is your casing layer moist??

my casing layer may be a bit dry. I don't mist the FC very much. I'm sure I heard about not misting after pinning. I was also getting some standing water on the myc in the casings. I cut down on misting because I know standing water isn't good.

Standing water isnt great, but you will want to mist and keep the casing layer moist are you sure its water, not metobolites?? You can fan after misting to help evaporate the water.
Unfortunatly i dont do casings, just cakes at the moment so dont have any first hand experience, but it seems like a moisture issue

Dont use H202, h202 harms mycelium more than contaminants.
With the exception of cobweb, h202 can only be used effectivly against cobweb, nothing else.

One thing is your casing moisture and another is your substrate moisture. If your substrate is dry you can pour water down the sides of the tray and pour off the excess after a few hours.
Also, 8 inch is a bit too thick for a substrate layer, 4-5 inch gives optimal results.

I also do casings and you need to mist more. I had the same problem, Startesd misting more and added more FAE, now they are getting alot bigger. Also try adding a few 1/4'' holes around your FC at the surface of the casing.

Well, 2 of them have a sub. thickness of about 4". The big one probably has 7" sub. thickness. Figured with a think sub I would get monsters. They are in 2 lil flowerpots and a bucket. They have shrunk some. The 2 largest shrooms grew up the side. This is the best pinset I've ever had though. Can't complain about that.

Those are really small, i also see know holes in your fruiting chamber to help with FAE, i see a digiital gauge in there, is that what your using for measuring humidity??
There not very accurate and that will probably die from exposure to high humidity, even ones with an external sensor arnt that great, become inacurate as the battery voltage decreases and the sensor gets clog with spores etc.

I have the same guage. It has the temp and humidity. I put it in my martha and it was just covered in h20 after a while. I dried it out and it still works fine. It's cheap but it gets the job done for me.
