nice, maybe move this over to the grow logs. Hell you could even write a tech for it and people will search and find it and then come back in here and ask us stupid questons abot the empty cupbord tech and what type of yeilds it produces. i cant wait

Would just the organic rye flour and vermiculite work ? Because I hate having to order brown rice flour, or driving 30 miles to the nearest health food store to find some.

Yes rye flour will work, but u will need a pressure cooker for sterilising due to endospore content.
BRF and Rye flour both work well.

Well when I first went out and bought all the goodies that I didn't have laying around I was using a pot with a lid...but when I went to a local store, they had a returned one (normally 100)and I got it for 30 dollars. How exciting I can now go look for this rye flour at walmart since its only like 5 miles away, which is also exciting.

Why do you say your verm is too fine mushroommarren? if it is horticultural grade verm it should be the right size.
Post a pic of some of the verm next to some grains of rice (for comparison reasons) so we can see the size of it.

I forgot to mention make sure the water content is right, i just had a search around and noticed a few posts stating it doesnt work, Seems like they managed to get the moisture content too wet.
The ratios are exactly the same, the only thing that can effect the moisture content is the grade of verm you use.
This can easily be correct by adding more verm if theres too much water or more water if its too dry.

Wow, I've got several bags of the exact same brand of vermiculite as you (from Ace Hardware) and it isn't nearly as fine as that. A medium chunky. That must be a freak batch....

I don't know what everyone is freaking out about. I've used verm as fine as that stuff and it worked great. Get the water content right and don't pack the jars down AT ALL. There should be small gaps in the substrate like the jars pictured in Tahoe's thread when you load the jars properly.
You guys are making me want to do a BRF/verm grow again simply to show that fine verm will work.... just fine.
