contamination?
    #7813531 - 12/30/07 12:47 PM (16 years, 3 months ago)

Ok.. so i was impatient with my incubating jars and moved 2 uncolonized cakes into my fruiting chamber, and in the past few days the mycelium hal colonized nicely.. but now i think one of my cakes are contaminated. description: looks like fluffy gray (cotton?) i guess u could call it on the top of the cake, i have a picture but u cant see the fluffyness but u can see where its gray.

http://i138.photobucket.com/albums/q241/tree_stump1337/contam.jpg

is there anything i can do? as in like cut it off? mist the cakes? put some h202 on it? responses would be appreciated.

o yea.. and i put the cakes directly onto the perlite is this a bad thing? should i raise it off of the perlite with something?

and 1 more thing (wrong forum probably), when i look at the side of the cakes the mycelium looks like its jolting out of the cake like little spikes? is this good? baD? should i mist it to make it go down?

thanks for all and any information given to me

The grey fluff sounds like cobweb. Give it a spray of H202 and it should go away.

Put your cake on a tinfoil square, some times if you leave it on the perlite it tries to colonize the perlite.

The white spikes are fine and you will prbably have pins soon.
