What others said, Alan Watts is really accessible and a great read. It's refreshing to read a deep book free of pretentions and erroneous bs.

Reefer, I think all of the Dalai Lama's books are great reads as well.

You're thinking of The Celestine Prophecy Gomp.

While not particularly well written, it is a good introduction to some very useful principles...

That is correct. And I could not agree more! Well put!

I read all three books. Old news to me, but neatly presented, and catching story. Some of the few books that just kept me reading. To find out what happens next, and next and next.. :p

Thus Spoke Zarathustra was a good suggestion..

I like reading anything Mckenna wrote, Simulacra and Simulations by Jean Baudrillard is extremely dense, but the parts I understood - I fucking LOVED. The unabomber's manifesto is a cool read. Walden by Henry David Thoreau, Alan Watts is golden, uhhh yeah. Those should keep you busy.

Great thread btw

Heres a list that has a theme. They seem to bridge the gap between Eastern and Western philosophy. Sound interesting? These are great books in their own light as well.

If you have basic knowledge of modern western philosophy, alot of shroomers might like the philosophy of Baruch Spinoza. I would recommend his book the ethics. Its probably the hardest read on this list, but its worth it, even if you just get a little bit of what he says. Hes kind of like Eastern philosophy explained through western language. groovy

You might want to read Henry David Thoreau - Walden, if youve ever seriously thought about forsaking society and living in the woods. Its kind of like pulling it off from the comfort of your room.. One of the key proponents of the Transcendentalist movement, which like spinoza, is kind of an eastern philosophy through western explaination.

In the same light Id recommend Ralpho Waldo Emerson's Essay - Nature, a great transcendentalist essay.

A River Runs Through It - If youve seen the movie, forget that, it sucked. Ever wonder if Ethics/morality might embrace art?
Opening line - "In our family, there was no clear line between religion and fly fishing."

Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintainence - This is the book that got me thinking in the first place. Lucid and entertaining. I think many shroomers would also recommend this. Good book to read stoned!

Ecknath Easwaran - Get his translations of the Bhagavad Gita, and the Upanashads, and the Dhammapada is probably good even though I havent read it. His introductions to these texts are also amazing. He talks about a universal science, that encompasses both mind and body. He is very easily understood from a Western mindframe too.
