Coir to dry
    #7817512 - 12/31/07 03:22 PM (16 years, 1 month ago)

I spawned some brf jars to coir last night and today when i got home from work they seemed really dry. When i mixed the coir with the spawn i squeezed it before i used it, so as to get the excess moisture out, but i think i may have squeezed to hard. should i mist the dry coir? if so how much?

I think it is just right. You want the coir at a level where very little water comes out when squeezed. I don't believe you could have squeezed too hard. misting the coir will only get the top layer wet which IMO increase the risk of contam growth. They say it is better to be too dry than too wet anyways.

basically you wanted a few drops to come out when gently squeezed, that's proper water content

there has to be some moisture in there though, there's no way you could've squeezed it all out. i don't think misting will be good either, contams could be a problem, as said above

I guess just wait and see, and wait for other opinions

wait until the myc fully colonizes your casing then you need to make sure it is moist enough to grow and shit by then the myc will be able to fight off any contam threats

Is it light brown or dark brown? If it is light brown (as it was in brick form) that it is too dry, if not you'll probably be fine.
