what are the best mail forwarding services?
    #7814993 - 12/30/07 07:41 PM (16 years, 1 month ago)

Hey all. How necessary are the mail forwarding services, and what would be the best one to use? Between the idea of mail forwarding and P.O. boxes, it seems like nothing but a tedious pain in the ass. Does anyone here just say screw it and have spores sent directly home?
Also, I just started an encrypted email account. Will messages I send to a vendor stay encrypted to anyone's knowledge?

Mail forwarding is a good idea. Nobody seems to have been busted based on getting spores mailed to them. But, it's just plain good common sense to not mail spores to a grow show location.

As for encrypted messages, you have to have encryption on both ends. If you have the public key of a vendor then the only way the message can be decrypted is by the private key that matches that public key. Any other method introduces potential sources of compromise and is not true end-to-end encryption.

You should also note that hushmail sold out to the feds and provided them with decryption abilities. That is something they could not have done if they were honest in the first place and didn't somehow store passwords and private keys that they should not have. I wouldn't trust them or services like them when it's not difficult to encrypt your own stuff with PGP.

I would suggest using the shroomery encrypted PM feature. You are still trusting the shroomery to not store your private key and that your key is not intercepted en route by a third party when you generate it.

Q. for suess or others... Could the encrypted PM system be changed to accommodate generating keys at home rather than the server? That would bring true security to the system. If I were an interested third party I would focus on intercepting the keys when generated and sent out rather than any other method of compromise that I'm familiar with.
