People who are all about money

My friend asked me the other day what I was doing for new years because he is having a party. At first I wanted to go but then he tells me its $20 a cup because there will be lots of booze. I barely even drink and probably will take shrooms anyway so I don't want to spend 20$ just to go hang out, plus I think 20$ for a cup is trying to make money off people. Would you go or not?

i'd tell him i wasn't going to be drinking as a result of the shrooms.
if he still tried to make me pay - i'd call him a dousche. If he was like "well throw me $5 incase you drink some before/after" then i'd be like 'yeah, taht's reasonable'. but he shouldn't charge you at all if you're just comin to chill.

Well he's justified, depending on how many people are going.
I've thrown bashes where I know a bunch of strangers are going to be showing up, drinking mine and everyone elses booze. So the best way to solve it? Let it be known that all the booze is for everyone, as much as you want. But you gotta pay a one time fee to drink for the night.
I usually have charged only 5 bucks in the past, but there was a LOT of people there, so it payed for all the alcohol I bought. I maybe walked away with 50 extra bucks, which was more than fair for my labour to clean the mess up the next day.
You shouldn't have to pay if your not gonna be drinking though

$20 for beer or $20 to get in?
Personally, I wouldn't pay either way.

it sounds like you pay $20 and you get a cup that you fill with all you can drink. It would be a decent deal if you were planning to drink. Maybe you can just not buy a "cup"? Say you'll bring a bit of weed instead.

It's a one time fee...for a "cup" that you can refill as many times as you want with whatever you want for the rest of the night.
I've never heard of someone charging that much though personally.
The common number is 5 bucks. I've been to a couple that are $10

What comes in the cup exactly? If it's filled with LSD, I would definitely go! If it's empty, I would spend the $20 on the movies.

haha I don't understand how people don't understand this concept. It's quite common with big parties.
Ok, ever been to a kegger?
It's a huge party where the "host" has bought say, 3 kegs and invites shitloads of people over on one condition...it's going to cost you 5 dollars for a "cup"(this term referring to your one time fee to get in the door, get a cup with your name on it, to be re-filled at your discretion as many times as you'd like).
When I've thrown them, I usually bought one keg and a dozen or so different types of hard liqour.

I've been to tons of keggers. 5 bucks a cup is reasonable and is usually the norm, but 20 is just fucking ridiculous.

I hate paying to get into keggers. Sometimes it just needs to be done though. Or you can always just run up into some random parties and chug chug chug.
