If necessary, yes. Mist very lightly though. Wrinkle up the wax paper, and then flatten it out again for use so it doesn't try to form a seal on the tray, or anywhere else such as a mushroom cap. In other words, make sure air can get in and under the wax paper and you'll be good to go.

Casing isn't essential with substrates that hold water very well like hpoo or coir, but is compulsory with non water retaining substrates such as grain.

So depending what your substrate of choice is, you can case or not. In any case (lol) casing will always help.
