DMT = Sleep paralysis

For those who have smoked DMT before does it compare to sleep paralysis at all assuming you've experienced both? Like the feeling of your body getting covered w/ a lead blanket then the hallucinations begin(dream hallucinations that is).

Hallucinations occur after sleep paralysis is what I mean.

Sleep paralysis takes place in one's immediate surrounding environment as one left it before they went to sleep. A heavy DMT experience almost takes place outside of time and space.

No i don't think there is much of a similarity. Not that i've tried it but Ketamine is supposed to be like Sleep Paralysis.

Hate to bump old thread, but that statement is compelely false. I've had several very scary hallucinations during SP. One that sticks out in my mind is this one time when I was with my Ex. We were both laying in bed and her friend was there. Well I guess I drifted off, but really I was going through SP, I heard/and SAW them talking to each other the same way they was when I was awake, but I looked over at my window I notice a giant black spot over take my window then my blinds started shifting open and I saw red eyes that became a black horse and the grim reaper looking in at us I tried to cry out, but like with most SP you can't talk or breath. When I finally came through I sat up breathing hard and scared to fucking death. This all happen with in mins. Scary shit really, and I've been getting this a lot over the past year. Not the same thing but some really, really frightening SP experiences. Could the use of LSD, or other drugs trigger this. I know stress does, and I have a lot of that over the past 2 years, but it been mostly noticeable after I had taking LSD and a crazy year of depression that lead to the use of tons of DXM.

ya, sleep paralysis can get fucking crazy like that. and it seems to me its always some kind of weird twisted dark and scary shit like that as far as the hallucinations/dreaming goes. never anything happy and fun. im not so sure lsd could cause sleep paralysis, but you never know. for me, i have found that trying to sleep on a medium to heavy dose of opiates increase the chances for a sleep paralysis episode dramatically.

I get SP sometimes. I experienced it yesterday, actually. It was preceded by a dream in which I huffed computer duster and then I fell over and couldn't move, but that feeling was actually the SP. I haven't done DMT yet, so I can't make a comparison.

I don't like the DMT reference, when I think DMT I think about flying down a tunnel going at light speed. SP more like I just smoked some salvia, minus being able to breath.

DMT does not cause proper "hallucinations" Sleep paralysis IME, does. You believe what you see is real 100% in sleep paralysis. I've had a shaman casting a magical healing rain cloud over me at the foot of my bed when in sleep paralysis.

Yeh i am going to have to agree. Whereas most psychedelic drugs just distort perception, you may hallucinate things, cartoonish things, but they have a very unrealistic look to them, its almost as if your whole world becomes unreal. Whereas while under the spell of sleep paralysis (the moments after you come out of ur paralysed state) you CAN hallucinate, and it is usually very sinister. To agree with grapefruit, these hallucinations are usually indistiguishable from reality. I once saw a giant 10 foot baby sitting in my room, doing backflips and spinning on its head. The sheer terror i was feeling at the time was something that I have never experienced, except when in one of these states.
Now i just smoke herb daily, and havnt had SP since.

Yea I was wrong in saying that, my bad. Sorry.
I was just speaking from personal experience, and didn't really know at the time. I have read about people hallucinating. I just never have.
Nevertheless sleep paralysis isnt like dmt.

I've only had one that was even remotely sinister. I thought there was a motorcycle gang that kept slowly driving by my house with some sort of malign intent. The rest weren't bad, alarming, but not bad.

Something interesting that you all should note and even try is opening different states of consciousness through SP
back when I used to get it nightly, I would sometimes embrace the SP instead of trying to slip out of it. SP feels very unpleasent (for me anyway) almost to the point of feeling like convulsions/electricity and can even be painful or the terrifying feeling of being held down by a massive weight. While initially it feels bad, if you remain calm and embrace the SP it can actually take you out of body. I've had amazing experiences through this. It essentially induces a spontaneous lucid dream, unlike most OBE, you actually feel yourself being lifted from your sleeping body and can witness yourself lying there. Most of these experiences lasted 15-20 seconds (seemingly) and definately produced profound visionary states VERY unlike any drug or dream that i've ever had. It takes discipline and practice, it is almost like learning to lucid dream (albeit much easier), but after a few nights you can easily induce an OBE, 2-3 times a night. I was doing it multiple times a night. I also noticed that after I stopped fearing the SP I got it a lot less, but as a child I would get it nightly and feared it. They are a lot different than night terrors btw. (which ive never had)

wow, I know what you mean! That same thing happened to me as a kid and it scared the shit out of me, I was scared I would be stuck there forever sometimes, and It frightened me every time. Now that I am smarter I love it when it happens, although i always forget to make an attempt at it. It actually just happened the other night, I was having a particularly nice dream about this girl..but I woke up..but knowing I was tired enough, I layed back down and decided to go into aut0-pilot dream mode..its like dreaming and being in full control. I love it.

I just have never had a good SP experience, I have been able to get up and walk around but I don't think it was out of body experience, it was more of a crawl to the door so I could find out why there 100 knock going on around my room. Once I got to the door though it had a lock on it (which my door does not) and that made things a lot worst. I never went and tried to look and see if I was laying bed though, I might have been. The best way I found out how to stop them quickly is to concentrate on shaking my head.

The key to a good SP experience is the elimination of any and all traces of fear. You can accomplish this by learning how to stop it at will. For me, humming and wiggling my toes makes it end almost instantly.
When the fear is gone, the fiendish antagonism ends, as do the crazy hellish visions. When you are comfortable and confident in yourself you can experiment with allot of really interesting visualizations and meditations.
Once you have mastered this, you can also learn to induce the state by staying conscious and focused as you are falling asleep....falling asleep "consciously" if you will. There is a very specific feeling that goes along with sleep paralysis, that for me can only be described as a "disconnection", and once you are thoroughly familiar with it, you can edge yourself towards it as you are drifting off to sleep.
Eliminate the fear, and everything else is cake.

Well the next time it happen it happen, I will try to eliminate any fear I have of what going on. Now a couple I did do this and it felt like I had taking lsd, that ended bad. I also had one time when I thought I did a line of coke (which I have NEVER done in my life) and it felt like I was lifted, but that might had been just a dream cause was not in my room or anything I was out walking around everywhere. O yea one more (sry for this shit but this stuff has been freaking me out for awhile and it nice to talk about it). I had drank some 151, the rest of the bottle which wasn't a lot, and went into SP I saw the bottle of 151 and it was full when I went to grab it would just start to empty out, and I didn't even try to drink it. I put it down and it fill back up, that was more of a tease kinda pissed me off when woke and seen the bottle lol.
