Absolutely worthwhile. I'm sure your experience won't be as intense.
Sounds like a blast. Have fun!

Lilly was big on ketamine and his isolation tank. Although Ketamene and his hot tub almost killed him If I remember correctly. Its been a little while since I read about Lilly.

I'm not aware of any. I only know him through his words.
His book on metaprogramming will give you an idea of what he's about, although his other works are far more pleasant to read.

The K years came later in his life, I think. He's done some interesting dolphin research before he began exploring LSD in the isolation tank.

from what little I remember about Lilly I do know that the chronological order you suggest is accurate.

93 Yes, not his best, but it's a great introduction. I'd recommend "the scientist" after that. Yeppers on the 90 clams for an hour and a half being too expensive. From what I've heard, 40-60 hr is the usual rate. A new tank runs about 6k and you then need a good deal of epson salt(7-800Lbs rings a bell). There's actually a suprising number of used tanks on the market that are around the 3-5k range. American dollars that is. I never had the opportunity to try out a tank. Too pricey to buy for me and whenever I intended to go for a session, something came up in my life to divert my attention. A previous poster inquired about Dr. Lilly nearly killing himself on K and yes, he nearly did so a few times. The most noted was when he k-holed and landed face down in his swimming pool. His wife then recieved a call from someone they have'nt heard from in years, who wanted to talk to John. She went to retrieve him and discovered him just in time to save his life. He also got in a nasty bicycle accident. Too bad Lilly somehow gets clumped in with modern day new age fluffy-bunnyism. He certainly had a most scientific mind and actually put his own life on the line to break new ground, instead of merely theorizing. An explorer in the true sense of the word. 93 93/93

When I sit in my room with the lights off and my mind focused no external stimuli affects me anyways.
If you have patience you could achieve a similar state for $0.. What has been described in this thread sounds like a deep meditation

I think it sounds awesome. Do it.

OneLessForeskin said: Has anyone here had experience with a floatation/sensory deprivation tank? I've been reading testimonials and it simply sounds like an amazing experience. Definitely something I intend to immerse myself in within the next 3 months. I found a place in NYC that is well-reviewed and charges $70/1hr or $90/1.5hrs. I'm gonna go for the latter. I intend to get some practice, do it a few times sober, before I venture into it under the influence of a psychedelic.
no i haven't OLF- but thanks for turning me on to this - I have ALWAYS been interested in this sort of thing - I have tons of back/neck problems, PLUS I am sure you can have some real meditative experiences in this thing - $90. is a spicy meatball though (even $70.) but I think once every 2 months would be good. If i do it - I will post about it. OoD

While I have not done this in a tank. Sounds fun for mediation. I do use a 12ft round x 3ft deep pool. Started floating for back problems a few years ago. You can close your eyes and go were you want or watch the clouds float by. The ducks fling by while tripping on shroom will never be forgotten.
Have fun.
