Weird dust/mist
    #7809429 - 12/29/07 12:55 AM (16 years, 1 month ago)

I was crumbling up some wbs 1/2 pints today, and i noticed something strange. At first, I thought my eyes were playing tricks on me, maybe the light was just never right before, or its something with this particular jar. Anyway, as I was breaking up the grains from this jar which was really over colonized I noticed a "dust" coming from the broken chunks. It could have been a mist but it looked alot like more perlite dust. Ive been reading things on these forums about dried jars of grain that revive when water is added, and also about getting growth from dried fruitbodies... so I was thinking maybe one has to do with the other. If I had a nice microscope, I would actually try to recreate the situation and capture some of the stuff. Maybe mycelium like some other molds can actually spore when stressed in certain ways. Ive read about molds that produce spores well before they actually produce any kind of fruitbodies, so even though its incredibly unlikely I would still like to check it out. I would bet even if I had that microscope I would probably just be looking at water droplets underneath it though.

Has anybody else noticed this mist/dust before? Like I said, if the light hadnt of been just right I probably wouldnt even have noticed it at all. I also remember that those particular jars were over saturated, and thats why I left them long enough to get so over colonized. Im very intrigued at this point, but have nowhere to go with this train of thought.
