Ok, so i downloaded a torrent for Rosetta Stone (language software), and its in .rar format.
the install notes are very brief, but say:
1. unrar and burn to cd or mount 2. enjoy
So, im having trouble with part 1. There are 29 winrar files..
What do i do with these..?

Use WinRAR. Right click on number 1 (or 0) and click Extract.

Winrar is a program not unlike WinZip. Just download it ( trial ) at this adress : http://www.rarlab.com/
Then you can extract the files and that way you can access them.
Have Fun !

alright, ive already got winrar installed.
I unrar'd y-rs07.rar and that revealed a 2,753,792kb iso file.
When i try to unrar the other 29 files (file type looks like: y-rs07.r14 etc.) it asks me if i want to copy over existing files?
Im assuming i just burn the iso to disk, and then open up the program?

When you extract the iso, it uses all the files. While its extracting, look on the top of the progress window... It will change file names as it goes through all 29 of your files. Click on the first one only, and do the extraction.
Now that you have the iso, you can burn it as an image (dont just burn the file onto a disk). Or you can use Daemon Tools and 'mount' it without burning it. 'Mounting' it is a way for the program to think its a CD in a drive while actually being a file in a hard disk. That is what I would do.. use Daemon Tools and mount it.

this is why torrents w/ rar's usually suck.
What's the point? So annoying, and you need extra space to extract the files from rar to the original format. God I hate rar torrents :-(

it's so there is less data to transfer, it help noobs with their precious ratios. i use 7zip for rar files, works just as good but doesn't give that pesky registration message.

yeah but on video files?
Hard to compress most of the videos I've seen past the original size. So its pointless.
Now games, that's cool I guess- but I don't really download them

eh...
perhaps, but even on torrent sites w/ relativly exclusive content (i.e. submitters do their own rips) they have these small rars
And how hard is it to just seed the file, not the rars?
I can see w/ older technology file corruption might be an issue, but I'm pretty sure the hash checks of the bitorrent protocol eliminates this problem. And they allready check chunks smaller than the rars for corruption.
So I say, no more rars in video torrents.

I am used to dealing with rar's since I pretty much only use usenet these days....but the newest version of GrabIt automatically repairs and extracts the rars. Nice feature.
Sometimes people pack rars like retards though...it's like a puzzle to figure out which to extract in what order...
