I want to share my first batch ever! These look pretty small??? But there seems to be many growing??? I am hoping to have enough off of this for two people to trip, does anyone think that would be enough?

no, i dont think that'll be enough for 2 people.
you need to birth those cakes properly to get a good flush. I've seen cakes so covered that you couldn't even see the cake anymore. What are you using for a fruiting chamber?

Also! The mycelia is growing up the stems of some of the mushrooms, is this normal? Its ok to eat the mycelia growth on the stems?

I would say dunk and roll for your second flush, and good luck

If you want a better chamber at a reasonable cost, you should do a search on "monotub". These are cheap to make, and from what I've heard quite effective.
The mycelium on the stems won't hurt you, but is probably a sign of low humidity.

man you should have a better fruiting chamber. a fish tank with perlite on the bottom an saram wrap covering the top would have been great

Oh god no! You will end up with mushrooms growing in your body, and they will eventually consume your whole body!;)
Just kidding! The mycelium is just fine to eat.

I say take it off that wet paper towel ASAP. That will harbor contams and could possibly ruin the cake, not only that it won't do anything for the humidity. You can still use the soda bottle to fruit, just put perlite on the bottom instead and fan often because the Co2 should build it rapidly in such a confined space.

hey if it worked (and it looks like it did) then i wouldnt say its that messed up. you probably wont be getting enough for two people off that first flush but dont worry, you should by your next only a few days away.

I suppose the paper towel could provide some humidity, I doubt it would be anything comparable to perlite and if you had to compare the two for contam potential I think the paper towel would take the cake (lol) as more likely to introduce contaminates.

I suppose you could have moist paper towel around the sides, but have the cake sitting on something else in the middle.
