The Pack A.D. - Tintype
Sorry for the back to back posts, but I just un-DRM'd this album and I think some people enjoyed the other Pack A.D. album I posted. This is their first record and in my opinion its better than 'Funeral Mixtape.'

don't apologize. you're providing quality content, it's perfectly acceptable.
i'm curious if you could provide a bit more detail about the sounds/genre of the bands you've provided.

Sure thing.
Department of Eagles:
Quote:
Department of Eagles began in 2001, when Daniel Rossen and Fred Nicolaus were randomly assigned to live together by New York University. During their academically lax spring semester, they made an “album” of beat-type songs best described as “What DJ Shadow’s retarded little brother would sound like.” Then in 2005, a British label re-released their debut album in Europe under a different title, and the group began working on new material. This time around, the music featured little-to-no electronic embellishments and was inspired by Randy Newman, Van Dyke Parks, Paul Williams, and Paul McCartney. On October 7, 2008 they released their follow-up, In Ear Park.
The Pack A.D.
Quote:
United in early 2006, Becky Black and Maya Miller of The Pack A.D. mean business. They take life on the road, Civil War stories, coffee and cigarettes, stir them into a vicious concoction of garage rock and Jack Daniels and then boil it alive in the blues. Holding the torch high in today’s garage rock revival, this Vancouver duo strikes with a raw, hell-torn, blues-rock swagger that is equally contemplative and unflinching. (Marty Rollins - The Approach) The Pack A.D. owes much of it’s heritage to the crossover-blues genre - one that’s recently become increasingly popular following the success of the White Stripes and The Black Keys. With the focus on rhythm-centric guitar, solid drum riffs, and passionate, unrestrained vocals, the Vancouver duo is at times haunting and at others irresistibly boot-stomping.
Their debut record Tintype, originally self-released, was re-released in January this year by Mint Records, who signed the band in the fall of 2007.
I describe them as the absolute middle of a continuum with The White Stripes on one end and The Black Keys on the other. No frills blues-rock

 Deepak Ram - Steps
Deepak Ram is an established master of the bansuri , an Indian bamboo flute, and a prolific recording artist whose main focus has been North Indian classical music. On Steps, the South African-born Ram showcases an uncanny ability to improvise with the bansuri in a jazz setting, accompanied by guitarist Vic Juris, bassist Tony Marino and drummer Jamey Haddad.
The disc has a mellow flavor with an abundance of world-beat grooves. Stand-out tracks include the classic John Coltrane compositions, "Giant Steps" and "Naima," George Gershwin's "Summertime" and the Ram original "Blues for Shyam Baba." "Giant Steps," presented as a light bossa-nova, showcases Ram brilliantly negotiating the tune's harmonic demands, defying the non-jazz expectations of his instrument. "My Funny Valentine," the disc closer swings along nicely and features an interesting exchange of riffs between Ram and Juris.
Throughout the recording, Juris establishes himself as a guitarist of diverse offerings, performing convincingly on both electric and acoustic guitars. His electrified solo on "October" is a spontaneous highlight of the session. Marino's bass lines are warm, syncopated and supportive, laying a solid foundation for Ram to build on. Haddad adds multiple layers of color, utilizing various percussion instruments as well as traditional drum-kit.
The idea of using an unconventional instrument like the bansuri on a jazz recording finds success in the hands of a master musician like Ram. The integration of musical cultures heard on Steps seems quite natural.
Not indie, but i love it. I'm actually sorta learning bansuri and play a lot of jazz guitar. This is perfect. Thanks for the add.

Yeah, I felt kind of stupid for putting it in the indie thread but I didn't know what thread it could have gone in and I don't think it would get much attention if I put it in it's own thread.
And everyone who's uploading The Pack A.D. thank you, they are a new favorite band of mine.

Since forming in early 2007, The Pains of Being Pure At Heart have become one of the most talked-about Pop bands in years. Their distinctive style tidily distills all the great Noise-Pop precedents (early My Bloody Valentine, House of Love, Pale Saints, Rocketship) with incredible exuberance and energy in every song.

dude... the last song on that album is fucking fantastic. the intro drums are so My Bloody Valentine like, which may very well be an homage to MBV. it's a great song. pretty good overall album. it's growing on me more and more.

hey guys, i'm looking for some music by a band called Oxes, based out of Baltimore, MD. they played at SXSW in '02 and i've been told they're a precursor to Dan Deacon's experimental baltimore-based sound. if you've got any, it'd be awesome. if not, that's cool too.

This is one of my favorite albums of 2009 so far. I've probably listened to it like 20 times all the way through.

They are one of the most boring live bands evarrrrr.

Not sure if anyone will be interested in this but I've had this laying around my computer for a while and thought it might be appreciated. Bootleg of Yeasayer's set at Lollapalooza last summer, very high quality and it has a number of unreleased tracks including one called "Amblin' Alp" which I think is better than anything on All Hour Cymbals. Makes me extremely excited for their second album later this year.

Derr, though I suppose it could be interpreted (poorly) as being bored to sleep or something.
