And my reply was more to point out that you were making my mockery obvious, similar to pointing out the unspoken punch line of a joke.

Don't do it again.

I don't know a lot about indie music, but I really do enjoy it. I've been to a few shows. Serpents of Wisdom and Mount Eerie are pretty good.

Have Gun, Will Travel - Casting Shadows Tall as Giants

This is a good folk group from my neck of the woods that I was finally able to get ahold of by the generous donation of a what.cd invite from HELLA

From seemingly out of nowhere, Love is All turned up everywhere after their release of Nine Times That Same Song and then, impossibly, disappeared to the fate of hype, broken promises and seething expectations. A full three years later, the fanciful-anachro-charm of Love Is All has matured with the marriage of several members, kids and a true appreciate that love is all. The new album harnesses the same raw energy and music which captured our hearts, but this time magnifies it through the complex emotions and experiences the band has struggled with. The recording of A Hundred Things Keep Me up at Night reveals the unsatisfying realities of success. Years in the works, A Hundred Things is a record about excitement, frustration, regret, disappointment and figuring out what's important in finding the relief of the morning's light at the end of a bad nights sleep.

Love is All - A Hundred Things Keep Me Up At Night

Quote:

A band comprised of three multi-instrumentalists, Starfucker has created a set of danceable, positive-minded pop songs, many of which seem to have been deconstructed, stripped of their immediate urgency, yet which still manage to retain their hooks. Not all of the songs come off as winners, U Ba Khin for example, putters around for just over 3 minutes without ever really getting off the ground, striking me as more of a too-long interlude than an actual song. But for the most part, though, these tracks are able to hold their own. They combine Hot Chip’s beats, catchy hooks and dream-tinged vocal style with YACHT’s glitchy experimentation, with actual instruments thrown in the mix; guitars and drums are layered seamlessly with programmed drum machines, synthesized keys, blips and bleeps, and sampled spoken-word clips.

Starfucker - S/T

WHITE FLIGHT' IS THE FIRST SOLO PROJECT FROM JUSTIN ROELOFS, FORMER SONGWRITER OF THE ANNIVERSARY. EXPLODING WITH RHYTHMIC AND MELODIC IDEAS, `WHITE FLIGHT' IS A BOUNDARYBLURRING COLLAGE OF POP HOOKS, STACCATO BEATS AND DENSE, ORGANIC INSTRUMENTATION. RECORDED OVER A YEAR IN OVERLAND PARK AND LAWRENCE, KANSAS, THE RECORD IS,IN MANY WAYS, THE RESULT OF A SUMMER JUSTIN SPENT IN SOUTH AMERICA, WHICH CULMINATED IN DRINKING THE PSYCHEDELIC POTION AYAHUASCA DEEP IN THE RAINFOREST OF PERU. THIS EXPERIENCE NOT ONLY INSPIRED IN HIM A MORE DYNAMIC APPRECIATION OF MUSIC BUT RECONNECTED HIM TO THE PURITY AND JOY OF MAKING MUSIC IN THE FIRST PLACE. AUDIO SAMPLES FROM THAT SUMMER ARE WOVEN THROUGHOUT `WHITE FLIGHT`, FROM THE SHAMAN SINGING ON `OBSIDIAN' TO THE CHILDREN'S SONG WHICH INTRODUCES `OZ ICARO', TO THE HAUNTING WHISTLING WHICH ENDS THE ALBUM.

White Flight - S/T

School of Seven Bells' full-length debut, Alpinisms, is best introduced with a little etymology: Mercurial French author Rene Daumal defined 'alpinism' as 'the art of climbing mountains.' Alpinists are both athletes and mystics. They practice 'pure' climbing, hands gripping the cragged incline sans rope or guide, forcing their bodies ever-upward in the name of earthly enlightenment. 'Alpinisms,' says Daumal enthusiast and guitarist Alejandra Deheza, 'are mountain-climbing songs.' Alpinism is an electronically enhanced Pop record of dizzying highs and claustrophobic lows, whose painstaking conception shows in its detail-laden crevices. On the album's best tracks 'the polyrhythmic dream-pop' of 'Face to Face in High Places'.

Arriving in 2005 with an exclamatory bang, sporting an electrifying live set and an audacious debut album in Beautiful Seizure, Volcano! cast an eye over the parameters of rock and exponentially expanded them into unknown regions. After a two-year hiatus, the Chicago trio strides onward with a new bounce in their step, and a new cohesive flow to their songs.

Paˆbir£ is an obscure Brazilian Psych concept album about the four elements (earth, air, fire, water) that was lost in a warehouse fire in 1974, causing it to become a massively sought-after lost classic. This recording of the collaboration between Brazilian artists Lula C"rtes and Z‚ Ramalho is a wonderfully off-kilter record, full of fantastic hooks and strange tunes that range from full-on freak-outs to quiet pastorals. The entire range of 1970s hippie Brazilian culture is displayed in this record. It's experimental, but it's relentlessly driven towards fun. Mr. Bongo. 2008.

Cymbals Eat Guitars - Why There Are Mountains

Apparently this is the hot new band. I'm digging the CD, but it can kind of get all over the place stylistically. It would be better if it was more focused, but it's still pretty damn good.

The band’s rise to success started in late 2004/early 2005 when demo songs which had been handed out in CD form at gigs found their way onto the internet. These demos rapidly spread among message boards and friends leading to a growing fan base for the band, and were collected on the unofficial Beneath the Boardwalk, which the band recognizes on their website. The band owe much of their success to viral buzz via the Internet, and have eschewed typical ‘commercial’ channels, including refusing to appear on the U K’s (now discontinued) Top Of The Pops music program, which was often seen as a gateway to success.

"Patrick Stickles howls with anguish way beyond his 22 years, often cramming lyrics into tight spaces just to make sure he gets the last word in. The drama's more Boss than Bright Eyes, fueled by blue collar frustration and, most notably, beer"

Good Stuff right here, think Bright Eyes but really heavy and loud.

Titus Andronicus - Airing of Grievances

Quote:

The second record from Toronto's hardcore wunderkinds is a dense, orchestral effort containing an expansive epic about the mysteries of birth, death, and the origins of life. Merging elements of hardcore songwriting with up to 70 tracks of guitars, organs, winds, and vocals, the songs are iconoclastic and startling, with Pink Eyes' growling vocals front and center. Though Fucked Up remain punks at heart, if quixotically diverse ones, they have created a great, weird, heavy record that stubbornly sticks in your brain and your heart.

Also good shit.

You and Pitchfork might be the only two entities that think Titus Andronicus is good.

Think Conor Oberst's voice, but shittier lyrics paired with shitty music. That's what I think when I hear Titus Andronicus. My friend wants me to go to the Los Campesinos/Titus Andronicus show.
I just laugh in his face every time he inquires about it.
