Icelandic electronica, pretty freaking good if you ask me (especially "I'm 9 today", the first track).

God Bless the Electric Freak

Technicolour Mother
Not really "indie rock" as the genre tends to go, but indie in the sense that it is widely undiscovered. Turn Me On Dead Man is a space/hard rock/psychedelia band that is DAMN FUCKING GOOD people. If you like any kind of hard rock/psychedelia I can just about 100% guarantee these guys will turn you on. Lots of electric sitar.

My Favorite Album of the moment.

31 Knots: Worried well
The sound is Semi-Psychedelic, Alternative.
With their latest release 31 Knots kept me attached to my headphones all week. Worried Well is a thought out collection of skewed guitars, soft and screaming vocals and fuzzed out tunes that will make you either jump out of your seat or lean back and close your eyes. I’ve been reading some disappointed reviews about the new album, and frankly I have no idea what people are complaining about – it’s one of the best albums I’ve heard this year.
-------------------- ToiletDuk said: For the record, I would show you my butthole but you would fall down and worship it as a God and you would give up everything to roam the land converting the heathens by fire and sword. Millions would die. No, no the cost is too great. I cannot.

LA punk's secret weapon bring forth a sound that's tempting and beautiful, yet melodic and tropical. "Skeleton" is a twisted joy ride through four boys' private party. Soothing parts reminiscent of Captain Beefheart and My Bloody Valentine, or some punk with a haunting reggaeton pulse that makes you move.

005 Second Album from the Critically Acclaimed Irish Trio of Torsten Kinsella (Vocals, Guitars, Keyboards), Niels Kinsella (Bass, Guitars, Visuals) and Lloyd Hanney (Drums, Synths). Their Ethereal, Mostly Instrumental Music Builds from Ambient Bases to Intense Melanges of Sound that Could Definitely Be Considered Part of the "Prog Rock" Movement of the Noughts.

Another fantastic Chill Out record to file along side your Bent, Dusted & Groove Armada records. Getting heaps of praisein the UK dance magazine's. 10 tracks in all including the 12 inch only singles, 'Terrapin' & 'The Plug'. Essential late night listening. 2000 release.

With Boxer, the National have reached four albums into their increasingly lauded career, never hurrying the tempo, never over-reaching in volume or instrumental density. Instead, the quintet's balanced on a pin, emotionally austere, if not utterly downhearted, finding brilliantly dusky ways for Matt Berninger's lovelorn voice to mesh with a pair of unobtrusive guitars and, here, an occasional phalanx of piano, horns, and strings. The tunes roll off slowly, Berninger's lyrics hugging the instruments with a sad brawn, rough-hewn as the drums and bass toy with angularity (try "Mistaken for Strangers," for one) but end up woven by that voice. Drummer Bryan Devendorf presses the songs forward repeatedly, as on "Start a War," where he gently thumps the time as the acoustic guitars frame and dot the melody, coalescing as the drums starkly chisel the melody. Nary a distortion pedal is harmed on Boxer, giving the National a magnetism so forlorn that you can't stop listening. --Andrew Bartlett

Deerhunter's artsy second full-length record is about contrast; dissonant but melodic, loud and bold yet dreamy and peaceful. Like Spiritualized on a bad trip, the first half is noisy, moody, and mostly instrumental except for Bradford Cox's occasional, heavily distorted sing-talking. But it shifts gears on "Spring Hall Convert" when the music lightens into lo-fi shoegazer pop. Elsewhere you'll find clanging punk, drone rock, and minimalist psychedelia. Sounds like a disjointed experience, right? Well, yeah, it is somewhat, but stay with it. After a few listens you'll hear the consistent sonic smarts that unify the record's wandering tone. The title track for instance comes off like watered-down Joy Division until the feedback kicks in, and the giant guitar blare sets off a charging momentum. A song like "Hazel St." has a goofier appeal, with its slightly awkward intro and loopy melodies. But there's nothing awkward about how the song generously unfolds so that by the end, the only thing goofy is the grin on your face. Such dynamism makes you wish they'd take a little more time in the studio to smooth out some of the record's rough edges, but then again, does the world need another glossy, over-produced record? Enjoy Cryptograms for its messy and scattered charm as well as its deceptively complex intelligence. --Matthew Cooke

The latest from LA-based Lucky Dragons truly reflects a unique language many have yet to ever hear. While the backbone of Dream Island Laughing Language is built on the ecstatic sounds of pop, the album views pop through a kaleidoscope. Pop is but a colorful prism, and every bit of sound is extracted from those beams of light to create music that is more collage than cohesion.
Rarely does strewn pieces of musical art form into such a well-heeled release, but Lucky Dragons have pulled off an album that is better suited as a schizophrenic interpretation rather than a long-winded album bent on bridging track one with track seventeen.
DILL is built like a rat’s nest and though vermin are stuck with vile adjectives and crude imagery, no one can deny how durable their nests are, and such is the case with the Lucky Dragons’ brand of experimentalism. Rather than deliver some contrived nonsense, the duo have given us a fast moving sampler platter of their prismatic view.
The beauty that lies within DILL isn’t its pots-and-pans approach to music dissection but how the chaos that skewers convention in fact breeds cohesion. DILL may be a musical collage but through all the bells, whistles, percussion, and chants there lies seventeen tracks that could not exist in any other form or any other order. This is the musical Big Bang—rather than explaining it with winded sentiment and journalistic lingo (code for adjectives that add up to nothing), just enjoy it.

Talk about high concept: this project features the house band of noted New York reggae label Easy Star covering Pink Floyd’s Dark Side of the Moon in the same sequence and in recognizable but reggae fashion. Here, the All Stars turn Floyd’s strangely surreal world even stranger and more surreal, adorning the English band’s dark psychedelic music with slow reggae beats and head-spinning dub-style production that is both inspired and effective. "Money" opens with the sound of bong hits and coughing instead of the cash register, then grooves to a reggae beat as guitar and organ churn out the classic riff--there’s even the signatory sax break in the middle. The group hits it just right on "Great Gig In The Sky," retaining the soaring gospel voice, while the remake of the chiming bells on "Time" reveals a bit of irreverent humor. Tearing away at the alienation of the original, this infusion of new personality makes it all work, elevating the album’s concept from the half-baked to visionary. --Tad Hendrickson

Through a wash of shimmering, overdriven guitars and thunderous drums, a thickly accented Glaswegian voice rises and falls across a soundscape of sweeping expanse. And so goes the Twilight Sad's full-length debut, Fourteen Autumns & Fifteen Winters, nine songs of ambitious scope and widescreen proportions. Each track is a mini-epic right down to its ornate title, like the blazing, blaring "Talking with Fireworks / Here, It Never Snowed," and "That Summer, At Home I Had Become The Invisible Boy," an evocative and affecting account of adolescent romantic bewilderment. The band's nearly overwhelming wall of sound means there's no shortage of aural stimulus to fill up the listener's ears, but penetrate the surface of this circuitous and clamorous record, and you'll find the Twilight Sad are concealing bewitching songs underneath all that noise. --Ben Heege

Like scrubbing yourself with sand, it's almost unpleasant but also cleansing; while plenty of music should be listened to loud the Goslings make sounds that demand the needle be edged over into the red. When you do, the noise is like a physical, prowling thing, and you're never sure if it's going to hug you or kill you. "Croatan," "Overnight" and "Dinah" alone deserve to inspire legions of imitators, but instead you can barely find Goslings material unless you take to the internet. At least they have a label now.

2008 debut album from the Electro outfit led by Andrew Butler and featuring Antony (from Antony & The Johnsons), Nomi, and Kim Ann. Andrew Butler emerged from making music for college-based dance projects into a fully-fledged recording artist, via the New York art scene. He hooked up with his friends and got them to collaborate and sing his songs and Hercules & Love Affair is the result. This album is 2008's most exciting dancefloor concoction, an arthouse vision of Pure Pop by way of futuristic Electronica and classic Dance music, where beautiful, bruising harmonies and tensile rhythms collide in resurgent soundscapes and emotive Disco workouts. The album is co-produced by Andrew Butler with Tim Goldsworthy of DFA at Plantain Studios in the midst of Manhattan, New York City.

Loney, Dear is the somewhat confusing nom de pop of Swedish "multi-instrumentalist and audio homecooking expert Emil Svanängen." His voice is reedy, high-pitched, and strong, so it's understandably the focal point of these quaint, home-recorded orchestral-pop numbers. Loney, Noir is technically the indie-pop ingénue's fourth full-length, but as his first three albums were originally released in Sweden as CD-Rs, it's understandable if even devotees of chamber-pop and/or the fertile Scandinavian music scene were ignorant of this genuine talent prior to this album's release. The songs tend to start simply--voice and guitar--and to snowball, slowly adding pump organs and horns and backing vocals and hand claps until they swell precipitously with sweet, contrapuntal sounds. The arrangements never get out of hand, however, and always work in harmony with these smart and achingly melodic songs. --Mike McGonigal
