hey teddy, which album were you referring to when you asked which genre it was? If you're referring to windy & carl's 'depths', then it is indeed ambient.
I'm gonna download that new mountain goats for sure. I have most of their stuff and probably listen to 'Ghana' the most.
I hope somebody enjoyed that Frusciante record i uploaded. some people have completely written his music off as drugged-out garbage, which I couldn't possibly disagree with more.

Not to hop on any wagons, but the mountain goats are an amazing band. SXSW anyone this year? I should be there.

I live in Houston and would love to, but I don't think I'll be able to get work off.

Oh man I forgot about this thread!
Here:

Constantines - Shine a Light
-------------------- Welcome evermore to gods and men is the self-helping man. For him all doors are flung wide: him all tongues greet, all honors crown, all eyes follow with desire. Our love goes out to him and embraces him, because he did not need it. ~ R.W. Emerson, "Self-Reliance"

Seattle-based Grand Archives have all the key ingredients that one needs to have a successful debut album. Led by a former member (Mat Brooke) of Band of Horses? Check! Signed to Sub Pop? Check! Hand-picked to support Modest Mouse on tour? Check! Thankfully, their noteworthy resume isn't only good on paper, it's reflected in their warm '60s pop sound. Clearly influenced by classic California bands like The Mamas and The Papas and The Turtles, Grand Archives shine a bright light on the typically dark and moody Seattle scene. On their Self-Titled debut album, calming guitar melodies soothe the listener, as horns occasionally join in ("Miniature Birds") and slide guitars keep the album's tone at a slow and steady pace ("A Setting Sun"). Although this is a very solid debut, the only complaint I had while listening to this album is that a lot of the songs sound the same. They're all very good, but I kept waiting for at least one track to break out of its laid-back shell and just turn up the volume a bit. Despite that fact though, one can't help but get sucked in with such standout tracks as "Sleepdriving," with its soaring harmonies and sleighbell percussion, or "The Crime Window," with its rousing sing-along chorus and well-crafted melodies. If you're a fan of '60s pop at all, this is definitely one album you should pay attention to.

Elliott Smith - New Moon
I've noticed that alot of albums released after a musician's death tend to sound sub-par and uninspired (usually bits and scraps thrown together by the label folk in hopes that the deceased artist's fans will eat it up regardless). This is no such album.
r.i.p.

Elliot Smith was amazing, but a very sad individual. Its pretty punk rock to stab your self in the heart though.
