Strange fuzz.... mutant mushrooms?

I had some failed jarred cakes waiting to be disposed of for weeks, when I discovered a few days ago that two of them had pinned.
I birthed the cakes. One of them seems to be fine (it's grown about 4 good size shrooms). The other had a 'bald spot' where no mycellium had colonized. This cake has since sprouted a few small, weak, twisted mushrooms that can barely support themselves and that bald spot now has a white cotton-candy-like fuzz protruding an inch off the cake.
Both of these cakes are in the same container. Should I ditch all/some/none? The good cake's mushrooms look pretty healthy so I'd like to keep them if it won't kill me.

ditch the poor performer.
any spot not colonized is where a contam could easily take over, if it hasnt already.
next time be sure on if its contammed or not. that one made it through...

Hmm alright.
The thing is, the uncolonized spot was being slowly colonized by the mycellium.
I think the whole batch got screwed up from moisture and this spot just needed to dry out with air.

Sounds similar to what happened to me with verticillium recently. I've heard of people recovering from it from scrubbing the cake and dunking in very diluted bleach water (150:1) I tried this, and when I get home, I'll find out if it worked.

Ok maybe I'll try that. Would hydrogen peroxide or rubbing alcohol work instead of bleach?

I dunno. Maybe someone more knowledgable could answer that.

Bury them outside. Contaminated cakes have a history of clearing up outside and fruiting.

If it were summer time, that's what I would have done with mine, but here in the winter, I don't think they'd have much of a chance.
