Do I Need Light to Start Seeing Pins?

So it's been an extremely long process with many obstacles on the way, but I managed to get two PF-tek jars fully colonized. Having washed them off with cold water and giving them a 24-hour cold water soak, I dunk-and-rolled with dry vermiculite and placed them in my terrarium.
It's been almost 2 weeks since I have had them in the terrarium, and the mycelium has formed in small puffs that look like cotton balls all around the cake. Some areas are completely dominated by mycelium, and still I have yet to see any pins...
What gives? I have been told at one point that I need to begin exposing the cakes to 12-20 hours of sunlight a day to begin the fruiting process, but I never thought that light would be issue with fruiting.
I just got a new camera so I'm going to post some pictures of my progress in the very near future...
What's the verdict? Do I need light (which will be difficult as I do not live alone) or do I just need time?
Thanks for any help.

a few cues tell the mycelium that it's time to pin. One is light (not a whole lot is necessary) and another is fresh air. Make sure to fan your FC regularly and that should help. A little light is reccommended as well.

You should have been exposing them to light from birth. In fact, I expose to ambient light from inoculation. Light is a pinning trigger once full colonization is reached. More light will help to generate more pins, less or dim light will generate fewer pins. RR

What I mean by that is I make no effort to keep the colonizing mycelium in the dark, as was thought necessary only a few years ago. Another myth busted. RR

I didn't put it together at first but I noticed that casings I was photographing tended to fair better than those I didn't. I later thought on it and realized I was giving the casings two things every time I'd take a snapshot. One giant blast of intense light and a breath of fresh air. I love happy accidents.
