Florida, New find, Gymnopilus sapineus!!!
    #779612 - 07/27/02 05:23 AM (21 years, 8 months ago)

Today is the greatest day of my entire life i think.

And ontop of that great news,
Annie found a Gymnopilus sapineus growing in my parents mulched flowerbed.

It does not seem to stain blue at the base of the stem, yet at least.

It's caps colors are very pretty... i am not yet certain about the potency of these...

I had found a simaliar shroom that i believed to be Gymno sapineus in the same exact spot, about a month ago,
But the one we have today is a very pretty good find.

I'm printing it.

Keep on sharoomin!~

Its sporeprint is sort of rusty cinnamon..
So i dunno, maybe Gymno. sapineus,
Or maybe even a type of Galerina..?

..Bad lighting on the pic..
I will try to get more..

could very well be a sapineus. One way to tell the difference between gyms and galerinas is the smell, many gyms smell like anise, and the flesh color when you break the cap open is usually a creamy yellow on gyms. Not sure however as I don't believe that I have found any sapineus before.

RIP Matt, your friendship and your contributions to the world of fungi will be missed. Unfortunately we never got to hunt together.
