possible contams?

hello! i am 2 weeks and one day into my second batch of PF tek jars. i inoculated 8 jars. on two of the jars around/near the mycellum there are patches of what looks like possible condensation (although not in the middle of the mycellum like i am used to), or maybe some kind of contam. it kind of looks like mycellum, just not as white and thick. so im not really sure if its part of the mycellum network, too much condensation, or the begining of contams. and the strains are penis envy/puerto rican one of each. i know i dont have any pics, but any help would be great
also, is it better to check on the once a week or so, or 2-3 times a week. i've been checking a lot so that if a jar is contaminated then i can take it out before the others get it, but on the other hand every time i check it i introduce more contams. so im not really sure
one other thing. i've been seeing a lot of peoples mycellum take off. like egg sized growth patches after 8 days, etc... well my second batch are two weeks and one day into it and i have quarted sized patches. and this is how it was one my last batch too. am i doing something wrong to slow growth? i know patience is a virtue, but i just want to make sure nothing is wrong.
sorry for any sp/grammer errors. i am very low on sleep.

I just started my third grow today, and fourth tomorrow.
My 2nd grow(3-4 weeks) has something similar to what you're describing. I have some jars with strong mycelium, and then more of a milky looking type of mycelium at the bottom. I haven't thrown them out yet, just to be sure. I'd say to just wait and isolate it.
Your myc should be growing way faster than what you describe. Optimal temp is 84 degrees. Seems like your substrate is too wet or packed in-so its a lot harder for the myc to grow.
^^if that's the case, you should start another batch if you can-so you won't have to put all your hopes on this one.

He Ksinao,
I´ve just birthed my first cakes ever and I too had slow growth. In the first 1,5 weeks nothing happened. Then some mycelium started to grow. In total it took me something like 5 weeks before I felt confident to birth the cakes. The last weeks I put the mycelium on top of my central heating system (before that they were in front of a heater, in a box isolated with a blanket). This seemed to speed up the growing of the myc a bit.
I´ll take greystealth´s advice too next time and try to make my verm a bit airier and less wet (although I think it wasn´t very packed-in in the first place...)
Anyway, end of the story: apart from one jar which has some strange white shape in it and still didn't fully collonize all of my jars succeeded in growing nice myc. They only were a bit dry at the end, but now they're in the fruiting chamber my myc is growing like wildfire again So I think there's still hope for you, although changes of contamination increase when colonization takes longer ofcourse.

Optimal temp is 84 degrees? see i didnt know that. they have probably been growing in 71-75 degrees. what kind of things can i do to keep them warm?

Search for Tub in Tub incubator.
Edit: There is info in this tek about the TiT http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/4576865#Post4576865

I use my girlfriend's electric blanket. I place the jars on top of them, and keep the blanket around level 6 at a constant 24 hours. The jars are directly on top of the blanket, inside a pantry- wrapped up in a blanket.
The mycelium will still grow in 70degree weather, it will just take a few weeks longer. 80-86 is best, 84 being your target. A couple other ideas, are placing them over your TV receiver since those are pretty warm, or maybe on the cabinet above a fridge if its warm in there.

82-86 is optimal for growth speed. But while it is optimal for speed it is also optimal for contaminant growth speed. Lower temps see a lower failure rate as it slows down contam growth rate more than cube grow rate.
On the other hand, if your technique is correct, there shouldn't be any contams anyway.
If the 5-6 days you will gain are not important don't bother with incubation. It takes up more space, is an extra expense and adds the risk of you overheating the substrate, which is not good
