Question about tubing
    #779933 - 07/27/02 11:15 AM (14 years, 4 months ago)

Is 1/2" inner diameter vinyl tubing big enough so it won't get plugged by water droplets when I run it from my ultrasonic humidifier to my grow chamber?

Yes, I've been eating them, for six or seven weeks now, haven't got sick once.

i don't use a humodifier, but from what i've seen, that would be too small. i've seen garden hose used mostly.

Depends on some other things in your setup and temperatures, but you might as well try it. Tubing is pretty damn inexpensive.

It will work, but it will have less throughput of course.

Less throughput is good for my situation because I have a small terrarium and I read ultrasonics put out a lot of water even on the lowest setting. I'd like to be able to hook it directly to my terrarium without using any dehumidification stages in between (i.e. 2 liter soda bottles). I plan on using one of the 15 minute timers and having it on 15 minutes every X hours (I'm not sure yet). I should set it up this week so I can test it out before I put my cakes in to find out if the tubing will work and to see how often I need to run it to keep the humidity high enough without soaking the mycelium.

Sounds like you've got a real good handle on it, so why'd you ask in the first place????

I just wanted to see if any of you had used tubing that small and knew it wouldn't work. That's the size I have lying around, and most of the tubing in the pictures I've seen looks larger. But I guess if 3/8 inch garden hose works than I should be fine.

Are you asking me? matts a few posts back said his garden hose is 3/8" inner diameter and thinks that is the standard size. I don't know myself. I've never measured my hose, and I haven't bought one in years.

Seems to me that the standard size garden hose is 1/2" ID x 3/4"-1" OD depending on wall thickness.

If you say so. I guess they come in more than one size. Anyway, even if 1/2" garden hose is what other people use then my tubing should work. Thanks everyone for your input.
