i don't have anything special around in my house for sterilization.
can't i just drop a few drops of gasoline into each jar and light it or something? or rub the jars with alcohol?

LOL, yeah, I think it's safe to say the gas thing is dangerous to humans, therefore good for sterilization... before or after ignition.

Petroleum products causes mutations in mushrooms, so I would advise against using gasoline.

Try hand washing out all of the slippery stuff stuck to the inside of the jar, making sure to get the bottom of the jars, then throw them into the dishwasher. By the time you pressure cook the next batch, there will be nothing left to worry about.

Any bad contamition i have had i simply sterilised the jar then threw the jars out.
I use 1/2 pint drinking glasses and can get 6 for £1.
I have re-used a few that wernt that badly contaminated, i simply carefully disgarded to contents into a sealed bag then washed the jar out in bleach water.

Why would you want to sterilize an empty jar? It's only plain glass. Use soap and water. RR

Yes... They do die hard. But a good wash means that they won't be left on the jar... right?
If your doing cakes with an ordinary pot I would(and have) washed em with soap and water.. Then - soaked in Bleach water then washed again. RR is right Soap and Water should be fine. Bleach if it makes you happy.
Don't thow them out. They will be fine.
