Supernucleus: growing reishi made easy (an attempt :) ) with pics

I'm developing a system for growing reishi and other wood loving mushrooms at home, for those don't own laminar flows and other professional equipment. my idea is to develop an all-in-one jar; spawn and fruiting substrate in the same jar, in order to avoid open spawn jars in non filtered air environments. the idea is simple: fill a jar with paper (and some cardboard "chips") and a cylindrical grain nucleus. with an injection of 20-30 ml of lc in the nucleus, mycelium first colonize the grain and then reach the paper -the fruiting substrate-
lets see:
I'm using a jar, some paper towels and cardboard chips (are needed? i don't know but is a experiment)

fill the jar with towels and randomly distributed chips

modeling a cylinder with a empty pepper jar

after misting and ready for fill with grain and PC

That should work out. You could also do it with sawdust, chips or whatever else is available. Reishi will even grow on coir. I'll move this on over to gourmet and medicinal for ya. RR

thanks
from the outside, can see very little amount of grain. pop corn shows no signs of growth, because usually the first days is hard to colonize. probably in two or three days i can see it. in the rye jar the mycelium are clearly visible. will post some pics when the mycelium develops more clearly.

isint it hard to see if there is growth because of the grains being wrapped in paper? or is there growth on the bottom?
otherwise it sounds like a cool idea good luck

paper too dry [Re: x7x_x7x]

seven days after inoculation I open the jars in order to see inside. pop corn is slowly colonized, and the paper is OK. rye is fully colonized, the paper shows some mycelial spots but is too dry. I inject 60 ml of 5% sterile dextrose in water.

I opened the jars some times and aren't contaminated. When mycelium develops well and colonize most of the surface, contam competitors simply don't get enough space.
The humidity and air exchanges have increased the fitness of ganoderma in the rye jar. I put the popcorn jar in FC today.
