I don't think there is any inherent form of contamination in the smoke. I've heard of some people who would blow weed smoke on their growing mushrooms. I think that breath can contain bacteria and other stuff, so I wouldn't go and do that, but I think that smoking in the same room isn't too much of a problem.

I believe that smoke containing contaminates is a myth, do to the temperature of smoke of any kind. As far as your breath, well I'd assume as long as your not spitting at your substrate, the smoke would still be contam free, because of the temp. Although, it would be possible for smoke to be toxic to exposed mycelium in a relatively volatile area or with excessive exposure.

It's not the smoke that's the contaminant so much as the large particles of smoke can act like a flying magic carpet for the contaminants that are in the air already. It's best not to smoke around your projects, and especially prior to doing sterile work. RR

RogerRabbit, please correct me if I am wrong, but what ThereavadaDreams was saying does not sound correct to me. Not only could the smoke potentially agitate contaminant spores into the air, but isn't human breathe also a source of bacterial contamination, regardless of exterior spores which are disturbed by the air movement??
If so, then I'm quite certain that by the time your breath leaves your mouth the hot air inhaled as smoke has cooled considerably having entered the lungs, and exited the lungs over a period of seconds, which would certainly not be hot enough to kill any bacteria or endospores.
Flushme, check a grocery store or drug store for "Oust!" disinfecting spray.

Smoke leaves resin. Resin makes dust particles stick.

I think the toxins/tar in the smoke would be the most dangerous aspect along with carrying contams. But carrying contams requires that whichever molecules do stick to the tar particles, have to make it to the jars, unless you are directly blowing on them ( idiot move ). I would say though that fungal spores and even some odd bacteria who produce spores as a means of colonizing, have a really nice heat tolerance as well as cold, dry or wet, these would be the biggest threat. Fungus wasn't here 3 million years before us for no reason.

Me either. Smoke floating around in a room is at room temperature, and when it leaves your lungs it's loaded with the bacteria from your breath, which the smoke then helps to keep in suspension in the air. Never smoke around your projects, regardless of what you're smoking or allowing to smoke, such as incense. RR

By editing your original post, you make everyone else seem stupid for the answers given. You could have easily asked for clarification. Walking through a room that has been smoked in isn't going to increase your rate of contamination, since you're going to wash with alcohol, wear latex gloves, surgical mask, etc. RR
