i would like to see the pats play the 94' 49ers, i think they'd give them a run for their money. covering moss wouldn't be as much of an issue either as they had deion sanders easily the greatest cover corner ever. just one-on-one those two and alot of the patriots offensive advantage is taken away.

I figured if you would acknowledge it you would appreciate the team and all the players talent and follow every one of there games. If they are the greatest team in the sport you into, why hate them and follow some local high school football team instead????????
your inability to comprehend the concept of respecting an enemy is pretty hilarious

So you're actually telling me you can dislike a team, and still appreciate what they've done over the course of an amazing season?

All arguments here are the same. We all have reasons for loving/hating teams. Run up points?? Talking smack?? Pats win the SB and have the ultimate perfect season? or they get man-handled by a competitor on the way that no one believed could do it??
So, rather than say "this is the way it will/should be" I will explain what I want to see in the coming playoff games this weekend:
Obviously from my avatar I am a Chargers fan. I want San Diego to beat the Titans and I feel they have the tools to do so. The X factor in this game is if Rivers has a good game or a shitty one for the Bolts. It seems like he can randomly play great ball or just stinks the whole joint up.
I want to see the Bucs beat the Giants. Main reason: I hate Ellie May Manning. I believe the Bucs have the edge for one simple reason: Shockey has a broken leg.
I want to see the Redskins beat the Seahawks. This will be a tight one for sure. I am rooting for the 'Skins simply because they are the clear overall underdog in the NFC. It is fun to root for an underdog, particularly in a conference I have no other rooting interests for.
I want to see Jacksonville beat the Steelers. Again, as a Chargers fan I want the team with the best ability and physicalness to square off with the Pats in the next round of the playoffs. Jacksonville is smoking hot right now and the steam seems to have fizzled out of the Steelers.
That would be my perfect weekend and dammit, I know I am right!!!!!

Yeah, it's very possible to do that.
Here's an example from college football: I'm a Fresno State fan, so I absolutely HATE Boise State. I was pissed off watching them win the Fiesta Bowl last year and I'm even more pissed off after seeing them in every "best of 2007" countdown last week.
Despite that, I have to admit that what they did was very impressive and made for the greatest college football game ever. Doesn't mean I don't still hate them, but I have to give them credit for what they did last year.

Oh yeah, regarding the Pats running up the score - NFL Network showed a full replay of the amazing 1993 Bills-Oilers wildcard game last night. That game should be required viewing for anyone whining about the Patriots not backing off when they're ahead.
With 13:19 remaining in the 3rd quarter, the Oilers ran back an interception for a TD to make the score 35-3. The Bills had 75 total yards at that point, the Oilers had at least 219, plus the int return.
The Bills outscored the Oilers 28-7 in the 3rd quarter and ended up winning the game 41-38 in OT. The Bills outgained the Oilers 206-19 in that quarter.
You never know what can happen in an NFL game. After watching that game again, I can't fault any team for keeping their foot on the gas for the entire 60 minutes.

Im not saying they shouldnt try to score still. They should take their key starters out and put backups in to lower the risk of injury. The only reason to keep you starters in with a score that high is if you are trying to get stats. If the score becomes increasingly closer (like a 21 point lead instead of a 28) put your starters back in.
I will admit that I did go back and look at the Pats season on a game by game basis and they really only ran the score up 3 times. So, to my discredit it wasnt as bad as I made it out to be.

Aw hell, I was skimming through and quoted the wrong person. I guess it was SheerTerror who didn't think you could hate a team and respect them at the same time. Sorry about that.

Greatest game ever. I think there was a game this year when the cunting Cowboys scored 14 in the last minute or so and beat the Bills. At any rate, the whole "Sportsmanship equivalency" being espoused by the fool is flat out stupid. There are, in fact, many things that are more unsportsmanlike than "running up" the score. Like stomping on a guys head. With a skate. And cheating.
