He seems to find some equivalence in a certain imaginary universe (i.e. the "sportsmanship" universe) between being butthurt and being shot. Extraordinarily perverse.

You're obviously quite right. It must be because I have actually been a participant, and thus cognizant of the sportsmanship difference between getting my ass kicked on the scoreboard and being at the wrong end of a cheap shot, that makes me a stupid, ersatz fan. He is clearly much more in tune with harmonic sportsmanship vibrations than I am.

Lets play a game called "miss the point," you go first.
Oops, I lose.
Way to fail again. Maybe read my post before judging what has been said. I didnt compare getting killed in a boxing match to running up the score, I compared the sportsmanship of the two. Get out of your one track "Patriots get me off," mind set.

That's just the thing though, you cannot compare the sportsmanship of a potentially life threatening sport to one that has a dramatically lower percentage of serious injury. They are sports that are on two different levels.
Don't you think that if there was even a shred of rationality in your argument, that at least one person here would agree with what you are saying? I'm not even sure why I am bothering arguing with you. Usually I stay out of these arguments because I can see things both ways, but not here. You are wrong. Everyone knows it but you. Lay off the drugs, or something.

I'm a former football player (not pro, but D III) who has been on both sides of blowouts, and I am a Lions fan, a team that has been on the receiving end of many brutal beatings recently.
The whole point of football (and any sport where points are scored and the team with the most wins) is to score as many points as you can, and to prevent your opponent from scoring. Your opponent is trying to do the same thing to you. It is rarely personal. But to not score all you can is stupid, because teams are capable of coming back. My Lions scored 38 points in the 4th quarter of a game this year to beat the Bears.
A team (especially at the professional level) cannot let up, because if they do the other team can and will take advantage. I have seen some crazy comebacks that seemed impossible, as have most people.
I think that it would actually be more disrespectful of the Patriots to let up on teams, like some Pop Warner team in a league with a mercy rule as if to say, "you guys really suck, and we don't even respect you enough to worry that you might come back."
Also, they have this thing in the NFL called a tiebreaker. If two teams are tied with a record at the end of the season one of the first tie-breakers is total point differential.
In many league (D1A most famously) your record doesn't matter nearly as much as how good your team is perceived as being by other coaches and the media. A really good way to climb ranks at that level is to beat up on teams.
Any team that doesn't want to get beat up by another team needs to get better. That's all there is to it.
To anyone whose pussy hurts because the Patriots are beating other teams to badly, I quote what Don Corleone said to Johnny Fontane:
"You can act like a man! [slap] What's the matter with you?"

you Pats haters can say whatever you want
guess what, i'm also a pats hater, i've seen them beat my team in the AFC championship game FOUR TIMES in the past decade.
If that doesn't generate burning hate for a team, i don't know WHAT does.
But it's the same thing as when i was a Dallas hater (again they beat us in the SB), but it didn't stop me from acknowledging just how amazing of a team they were.
The patriots, are probably, the best team to ever touch the field within modern time.
And Brady, has been playing QB like nobody else has seen it been done. The records, stats, and all those Randy Moss highlights speak for themselves.
And if you still disagree with this, then you're basically disagreeing with Steve Young and Dan Marino, who both, on several occasions, have acknowledged Brady's accomplishments this year as all time bests.

I'm a Pats hater. Fuckin' obnoxious Masshole sports fans all suck, and I love to see their teams lose. I think, though, that anyone who is honest with themselves, Pats hater or not, has to acknowledge the greatness of this team.
Any team with a quarterback the caliber of Tom Brady, and where Dante Stalworth is the 3rd or 4th receiver is gonna give any defense fits.

I want to say two things... one, you dont get additional credibility because you played football. Just like I dont get additional credit when I talk about hockey because I used to play it.
The thing I will say is that I think College blowouts and NFL blowouts are different. In highschool and college you NEED the stats so you can progress into higher levels of the sport. Starters are rarely benched (when healthy) in college because the ultimate goal is to get players drafted into the NFL by winning games. There is also a huge difference in momentum in college vs. NFL. In college a 30 point deficit is a lot smaller (in terms of ease to make up) than in the NFL. So other than breaking records, what is the point of running up a score? Is there any other reason in the NFL? I challenge you to find one. "Both teams are trying to blow eachother out of the water," is a fuckin piss poor argument since most teams sit their starters with a big lead. Its logical since the end goal of the NFL is to win the SB. You can win 16 regular season games and still not win the SB because you played your starters too much. I see it happening (although until now I have been wrong about Brady or Moss getting injured. As well as Peyton, I thought for sure he was going to get injured this season with the new LT.)
But hey, I believe in sportsmanship, you dont. Its not an arguement. Its an opinion that we obviously dont share. I know plenty of people that agree and disagree with me on the issue. I dont expect a bunch of Shroomery forum goers to share my opinions, but it wont stop me from expressing or defending them. We are not on a sports forum and I would venture to say very few of us actually visit sports forums (us meaning shroomerites in general). We'll see what happens. I can admit when I am wrong but this issue I feel 100% that I am not wrong.
Though I may be wrong about NE winning the SB, only time will tell. I just hope that if they dont win you will all admit you were wrong and not pull the "[insert team name here] was lucky." I can see that happening. I admit if they make it to the AFC Championship game and win the SB that I am wrong. You should all do the same if you are wrong. Just man it up if the games do not go the way your guru minds think it will.

are you really confused?
You can hate a team and still acknowledge their greatness. Like when people root mayweather to lose.

Sounds like your confused. You hate the pats and you just acknowledge their greatness, ok well your just acknowledging they're greatness? I figured if you would acknowledge it you would appreciate the team and all the players talent and follow every one of there games. If they are the greatest team in the sport you into, why hate them and follow some local high school football team instead????????

I hate the Patriots and think they are the best team ever.
And I'm a huge Bears fan, so putting them over the '85 team is saying alot for me.

pats<GB ----- thats how I would like to see it; GL Favre. Even NE>GB would be cool because I like the patriots, I wouldnt mind if they went 48-0 and won 3 sb in a raw, that would be hilarious, and I would win a shit ton of money.
