pins growing away from substrate?
    #7796161 - 12/24/07 04:42 PM (16 years, 1 month ago)

just wondering if anybody else has had this happen. i recently took some old trays of poo/straw/wbs and flipped them over after a few flushes. these trays were cardboard boxes lined with heavy duty black plastic bags. i then injected some distilled water into the sub and recased with coir/verm/peat/lime,etc.. the casing itself produced no pins but i have five pins, BIG pins, growing off of the bag itself. they are not touching the casing whatsoever! one of the shrooms has got to be at least 200 grams and has yet to brea it's veil. (i can guesstimate its weight because of past experience). i wish i could upload pictures. but anyways i'm dyng to know how after tub was flipped, how are these monsters growing off of the bags themselves?

Often, rhizomorphic mycelium will leave the substrate and cross over barriers looking for new food sources. Primordia then form from the rhizos.

it's just crazy to think that those little strands that are attached to substrate are providing that much nutrition and water to this monster shroom. i mean you can see the strands and they're no wier that a couple pieces of thread. it's just odd thats all. is this considered a good trait or is this just normal mycelial behavior?
