    #7795972 - 12/24/07 03:38 PM (16 years, 1 month ago)

I live in central America and it is impossible to get vermiculite down here
the only thing that I found with vermiculite was this bonsai substrate
basically is:

- coco fiber
- vermiculite
- peat moss
- organic soil
- bonsai food

??? will work as casing material ???

It might work as a casing layer, but not as a substitute for vermiculite in the PF Tek.

Probably so, but you can use peat moss for a casing layer without verm. Vermiculite helps to fluff the casing up and also holds moisture, so you'll have to keep up with misting more, but it works. Use gypsum at up to ten percent the amount of the peat, and lime to pH of 8.
