Cake produces a few shrooms before 1st flush

I've successfully colonized four jars. Two jars were colonized quickly within 2-3 weeks. These two jars already produced great flushes. The two other jars took about 4-5 weeks to colonize. There are in my FC now but I notice some strange things happening to these cakes: a few mushrooms are appearing but there are growing slowly. I wouldn't call it a "flush". They have been in the FC for about 6 days. Question is: what to think of this? I also have to mention that a few very small shrooms already appeared in the jars. It seems to me the myc is somewhat "confused", but will it ultimately produce a big flush? Is there any measure I should take?

The term you're looking for is PIN. The shrooms are 'pinning' and everything you mentioned is as expected.

Oh yeah, you could call them PINS. It's just that only few pins are being produced and they're growing slowly. The FIRST flush of the 2 other cakes consisted of enormous amount of pins. The cake I worry about looks like this:
You can see one fairly big shroom and just a few other pins. This cake has never produced any flushes before.
The other cakes produced a flush like this:

Now why is this?

No, the troubled cake has been dunked. Hopefully this cake will produce a big flush eventually.

I say you're looking good, maybe increase some light to help promote growth from the light source, other than that - job well done! They look great! As for the first cake with few to no pins - that's just the name of the game, might be a different story after the next dunk.

Well, the flush of the third cake is completely different:

Luckily several other pins appeared as well, most of them along the edge of the cake. The cap of one shroom looks awful, it's as if it's torn apart, you can see the gills . I don't know what to think of it. The biggest shroom you saw on one of the previous pix has grown into a really fat though short shroom. Strange, these cakes are grown in exactly the same circumstances. Any comments? Should I pick the big shrooms?

Welcome to multispore inoculation. Every cake is a different strain, thus will have different qualities. It's the nature of the beast. RR

I would wait until the normal looking vails break, then pick 'em all.

Yea, you referring to that pin set as your flush makes me wonder if you picked early. You should wait till the veils starts to stare. If let them mature more, they won't really get any more potent but they'll add a little weight. Black stuff on your mushrooms when the veils are tearing/caps are opening is normal too. Thats just spores. Might be more purply.
