Video Game Whores!
    #6726894 - 03/30/07 12:44 AM (17 years, 22 days ago)

I know there are tons of you videogame nuts out there!  How long have you been playing videogames and what are your top 15 favourites, most memorable or whatever?

I've been playing since roughly 88-89.

I remember having a sega master system and then upgraded to a sega genesis, but I played nintendo and super nintendo almost more than my own systems at friends and families places.

Most of my favourite games are pretty new age though(a lot in the n64 era), except a few.  Pretty close to being in order...

15. Doom 2(PC) - A classic
14. Battletoads(snes) - A first from "rare", but not the last
13. Super Mario World(snes) - Another great
12. Sonic the hedgehog 2(genesis) - I absoulutely loved this game. Got it the month it came out
11. Aladdin(genesis) - Rather short, but enjoyed it immensely
10. Super Mario Bros 3.(nes) - I've played this one so many times and it's still great
9. Super Mario 64(n64) - One of the first true 3d games I played.  Full of colour and great graphics for it's time.  It totally looked 10 times better than anything on the shoddy playstation at the time :P
8. Mario Kart 64 - So many fun battles.  I still pull it out with my one bud and have some insane matchups
7. Zelda: Twilight Princess(Wii) - Epic game.  A great
6. Zelda: Ocarina of Time(n64) - I think TP is much better, but this was Zelda in 3d for the first time!
5. Banjo Kazzoie(n64) - took everything that made mario 64 great and expanded on it immensely.  Another great "rare" game.
4. Conker's Bad Fur Day(n64) - One of the coolest games still out there.
3. Goldeneye(n64) - Another "rare" classic.  Had many awesome battles
2. Resident Evil 4(gamecube) - I have never been in such awe of a game.  Incredible artwork, animation, gameplay...everything.  It's so much better than any other in the series and was very hard to put down.  I've played through it twice now.

1. Perfect dark(n64) - One of Rare's best.  I put more hours on this videogame than all the ones above combined.  I was a bored, lonely, geeky teenager with nothing better to do...I even joined a huge online community "the perfect dark elite" and competed for the best times on each level/difficulty.  At one point I was ranked 30th in the world out of about 700.  I'd love to find this game again.

I could probably make a top 30 list and some other classics such as duck hunt, wonderboy 3: The dragon's Trap, Mortal Kombat, Killer Instinct, Grand Theft Auto, Commander Keen, Crystal Caves, Super Mario Bros, Duke Nukem, Quake, Resident Evil 2, Diddy Kong Racing, Starfox 64, would be in it.

I've had a NES, a SNES, Genesis, N64, PSX, PS2, Gameboy, Gameboy Advance SP, Nintendo DS, Gamecube, Wii, Xbox, Xbox 360, and about 3 or 4 PCs.

Its pretty tough to pick my fav games, but here goes:

10. Super Metroid: The music, the story, the adventure. Great fun.
9. Starcraft: Best RTS of its time.
8. Doom 2: Double barrel shotgun > single barrel shotgun
7. Secret of Mana: They don't make real-time strategies like they used to.
6. Chrono Cross: Sweet RPG for PSX, fantastic orchestral music and a wicked battle system
5. Tetris: I never knew stacking groups of 4 blocks could eat up so much of my life
4. Star Control 2: Probably the most underrated sci-fi game ever released ever. Incomparable depth for its time, amazing battle sequences, tons of replayability, excellent conversations with alien races. This game had it all.
3. Perfect Dark: Getting the FPS genre perfect. Tons of weapons, levels, character models, and most of all Bots! Wonderful wonderful bots!
2. Half-Life 2: A bit short, but the story, graphics, and physics are absolutely amazing.
1. Super Smash Bros Melee: Too much fun! More fun than I can translate into words!!!

Honorable mention: Dance Dance Revolution, Guitar Hero 1/2/3, all of the Mario Bros Series, Warcraft 2, Dune 2000, Halo 1/2/3, Super Monkey Ball, Tony Hawk Pro Skater 2/3, Galaga.

You gotta love the battletoads love... all of the OP's games are ace. The only problem was he made the bad decision of choosing the Sega route over the Nintendo route. Nintendo owned all. I bet he even drank Pepsi instead of Coke. Sega people always drank Pepsi. fools.

I would create a list of my own but these threads bring back the painful realisation that i've all grown up. I loved being a kid and playing the original Nintendo games. up up down down left right left right b a start. I <3 Gradius

Ive been gamin' since Atari 2600. :headbang:
I also do a lot of drugs - so i cant remember all the games that changed my life, but here is a brief list of the games that made me sit up and take notice:

-  The feeling of wonder when I saw my first "secret level" in Legend of Zelda under the lake, for Nintendo

-The quickness of the Sega Genesis "Altered Beasts" game + the new and real look of the game elements.

-The horror of PS1's Resident Evil & later RE2.

-Flying through the air on a motorcycle in Tomb Raider Revelation.

-The absolute absurdity of Katamari Damacy.

-And the painterly quality of Okami.

Ive played hundreds of games, but these will always be in my heart.

Ultima Online - when it first came out and there were no rules or formulas to go by. it was total chaos and total fun. my first experience of that game was running down a road in the woods and coming upon some rich players that were selling items that they had laid out all over the road.. you could just try and grab them and run but they had hired other strong players to chase after and kill any thieves. it was awesome.. no stupid PvP rules and other whiner pamperings, it was all up to the players.

Quake 1 Deathmatch - will always be THE first person shooter to me. a 4 vs 4 match on DM3 is an interactive piece of strategical artwork. i remember the first time i played online and couldnt believe those were other real people jumping around shooting at me.

Super Mario Brothers 3 - immaculate. imho no other videogame will ever touch the beauty of this one.

Super Mario World - not as magical as SMB 3, but incredibly fun. i have played this damn game a million times and it is still sheer bliss to race through these levels again and again.

Zelda: A Link to the Past: just pure adventure in a magical kingdom.

Illusion of Gaia: something about this game struck a chord in me. it had many references to the mysteries of our real world. i feel like the game was about the mystery of life. also had some very sad moments.

Earthbound - funny, bizarre, unceasing creativity and wonder. you never knew what to expect with this game, meteorites, aliens, stonehenge, pyramids, zombies, etc. etc. etc.

SNES Mariokart - battlemode.

Bomberman - 4 player insanity. me and my friends used to get high and go nuts playing this game.

Maniac Mansion

Alone in the Dark - cheesey polygons never looked so creepy

ya well i could go on, but I wont.

long live the golden age
