Contam? Help! Just birthed (pics)

these have been in the FC for 4 days. They started producing nice white mycelium spikes and now they are forming dark areas that look like contamination. Does this look like something I should be worried about? Is it possible that the mycelium will win the fight if it is indeed contam? I appreciate the help...and sorry for the large images. its hard to see it without them being large...

Hard to tell from those pictures. It might just be thin myc. Wait and see tomorrow. Shouldn't be a problem. Happy Holidays

Man, those look beautiuful! I can't see any contamination in those pictures. That area on the first pic is probably bruising. Nothing to wory about. Get those babies back in the FC! Let them do their thing and don't handle them anymore. Good Luck! you'll be munching in no time! Patience.

right on. so what causes bruising? is that from handling them maybe? does the myc react to oils on the skin or something? ive been trying not to handle them but ive been struggling with maintaining the right RH and thus had to remove the cakes a few times to tweak the FC.

even if your RH is incorrect, removing them from the fc is doing more harm than help. and yes, handling them will bruise them, or spraying them directly when you mist.

i know this is off-topic from my original post; but about misting...should i stop for a while since primordia will be forming soon? like i mentioned, the cakes are producing these sharp white spikes. are those what turn into pins? this has gone really well so far and im just afraid im going to f*ck it up

Usually its a good idea to stop misting when hyphal knots and primorida apear to avoid causing aborts, once they develop to pins you can start misting again, give the FC a quick fan out after misting to help evaporate any moisture that may have landed on the mushrooms.
Those cakes look really healthy.
In the event of a contamination, theres not much you can do unless its cobweb.
But those definatly look absolutly fine

i wouldn't worry so much, you have obviously done really well so far, at this point it is very difficult to screw it up. listen to the advise and you will be golden.

cakes love high humidity. you can mist all the way through. misting wont cause aborts.

What do hyphal knots look like and when do you typically see them? Is that was the knotty looking white protrusions are? some of them are a couple centimeters in size.

for the sake of education i jacked this image from agar...i hope he doesn't mind.

primordia are hyphal knots. (all those little white ball looking things on the myc) the spikes you are seeing are usually just really rhizomorphic mycelium (a good thing)
and direct misting WILL cause aborts, but you shouldn't be doing that anyhow.
