Impatient or did I screw up
    #7789358 - 12/22/07 03:00 PM (16 years, 1 month ago)

All right so I inoculated a dozen jars with 1cc each of my spore syringe and its been over a week and I havent seen any trace of mycelium growth. I'm wondering if maybe the heat from steralizing the needle killed my spores or if my vendor is just bunk? Or am I just impatient or did I perhaps screw something up. I know contaminations a big issue but there isnt any sign of growth, contaminated or sterile. Can anyone give me some insight =|

Has RR would say, mycelium doesn't grow on glass.
Jars are made of glass. What matters is what was in the jars, as the answer will change depending on what it was.

Oh right, my bad. Used 1/2Cup Verm, 1/4 cup BRF, 1/4 cup Water per jar. Temperatures have been kept in between 68F (briefly) and 72F (average)

Spore germination could take up to 2-3 weeks so sit back and keep reading .

Honestly, thats a little long for no signs to appear. My jars have always turned out nice. I don't use half a cup verm I use 2/3 a cup verm. I use 1/4 brf and 1/4 water. Then I put the things in a dark box, and I shine a light on the box. Also I put both the light and the box in a closet. This keeps the temperature at 82 degrees. Trust me its much faster than 65-72 degrees. It took me month and a half at 65 degrees, and it took me 12 days at 82 degrees. You should probably order another spore syringe if you don't have any more. A different strain, probably.

Thanks for your responses guys. Blarg, I know it can take some time for a whole lot of growth but I see NO signs of mycelium at all.
Draigan, when I'm mixing my BRF and Verm with water should I do them one jar at a time or all at once? Cause I did this one all at once and was a little worried about even water dispersal.

Did you inject along side the glass or into the centre of the cake?

How many inoculation points did you have?

2 inoculation point at the sides. Injected at an angle along the side of the glass about a quarter of the way down (just past my layer of dry verm)
I'm gonna try keeping my box warmer with a heating pad underneath it and see if that helps.

Give it another week before you start to worry.

Alrighty. So apart from warming it up a bit is their anything else I should be doing or do I just need to sit back and read?

Mix them all at once. Nah there is nothing els to do. Youll find if your using half pint jars, 4 holes is better, because it will colonize faster, via more points to sprout from.

Learn about bulk sub teks, and grain subs. The heat from the flame sterilization didn't hurt your spores. You didn't do anything stupid like inoculate your jars right after you PC'd them, did you? Or put alcohol in your syringe... You followed the tek, word for word?

I didn't have a PC so I did a steam sterilization for an hour 15. Then I let my jars cool overnight and used an alcohol flame to sterilize my needle.
