Should I get an I-Phone?

i haven't had a cell phone in a little over two years and im ready for one. but i want to make sure it's one that i wont get board with. i want something fancy and i like the look of the i-phone.
it's $399 for the 8gb one with a two year contract. i would go with the cheapest monthly bill which is $59.99, only because i probley wont be calling a lot of people. but a cell phone would really come in handy.
are there any problems with this phone that any of you know about? how long has the phone been on the market? isn't at&t a pretty good service?

the phone is great AT&T SUCKS HARD. IMO it's not worth getting the phone because the service provider is, and has been, terrible.

Anyone know anything about that new LG that seems to be Verizon's answer to the iPhone? All my friends have Verizon and like it, so maybe that would be a viable option if the phone is good.

ugh, cricket is a horrible service as well. I dunno, it depends on the person, verizon has a bunch of touch screen phones out right now, you can always go with a PDA phone if you like having an organizer and a web browser on your phone, in the end it really all depends on you.
here's some questions to answer when deciding what's best
1.) What features are most important to me? 2.) Flip Phone (clamshell) or Candy bar style, or slide phone? 3.) What service provider provides the coverage i need at the price i want with features i would like to have available? 4.) Is downloadable content important to me? 5.) Is internet connectivity important to me? 6.) Is the size of the phone important to me? 7.) Is the battery life of the phone important to me?
i could go on and on, but those are some things to take a look at when purchasing a phone.

I'm really not sure, but I heard there's a way to hack your iPhone so that you can have any service provider. But I'm really not sure if you can even do it anymore.

The iphone operates on the EDGE network. If you've ever used it, it is EXTREMELY slow. Thus for all practical purposes, it's internet capabilities will only be active in a wi-fi "hotspot". Don't be fooled by the internet speeds you see on the display models in the stores.
Comparable data plans with different phones can be found on Verizon and Sprint networks.

I have an HTC touch.
If I were standing next to anyone with an iphone and we both downloaded ANY type of data (web pages, email, etc.) I would absolutely crush them on the EVDO network.
My monthly plan costs HALF of what you would pay for an iphone, (as well as being superior in other ways), and the phone was $250. In addition to that I'm running Windows mobile 6, which (in addition to being WIndows) has millions of third party applications and is completley customizable.
I am also scheduled to get GPS capability in the next few months, and have access to other perks like google maps. In sum: I think everything about my phone crushes the iphone.

yeah, right around $500. but only that much if the phone is nice. i might go over that price if the phone is just great.

Ugh, I had Verizon for a year and it was the worst experience of my life. I've used every service provider and my best experience has been with T-Mobile and Sprint.
T-mobile has the blackberries and the new T-mobile Shadow which is badass. All of those are under $500 and quite badass.

i just recently bought a Samsung M620 (Upstage) after I was tired of the free phone I got, its only my second phone. I picked it because the battery life is 6 hours with the additional plug in battery and it works as an mp3 player. It needed a 2 gig SD card put into it, as it only came with a 64 mb card. but Now I dont have to buy a cheapie mp3 player and I have one on my phone at all times, for when you have to wait or something.

You'd be able to view and post here, but it would look a lot different. In this sense, it would appear as a "mobile" version.
Keep in mind, the voyager is not technically a "smartphone", no MS word, excel, or powerpoint. Also, because of this it will probably have limited thrid party applications (if at all).
Other than that, it'll do almost everything you want. Go look at it in the store (IMO that phone was kinda large and bulky). Be certain to price Verizon's data plans, since you'll need those for doing stuff on the web.

I don't know for certain, but I doubt you'll be able to get youtube on it. The only reason I say this is because on more complex "smartphones" video is tricky, and somewhat limited.
As far as cost, look into data plans at Verizon. I'd take a wild guess that an unlimited data plan would cost $15-20/month. Briefly looking at Verizon, their data access plans start at $79.99/month

meh, I only know because I was in your same position about two weeks ago. For me personally, I needed something for work, with a pretty powerful scheduling system, and the ability to coordinate emails and such. Thus, I knew I wanted a full "smartphone" and since I am a windows guy, I knew I wanted to go with something running Windows mobile 6. Kinda like you, the cost of the phone wasn't a huge issue but the reoccuring cost of a monthly data plan was.
Sprint offered me the best deal known to man, and it was easy to sign with them. They only carried about 4 smartphones, so my choices were pretty easy.
