My Pedro
    #778751 - 07/26/02 06:02 PM (15 years, 2 months ago)

This is my first pedro or cactus at all for that matter. I?ve only had it for about 2 months so far. I wanted a little input on how it looks. Does it seem healthy? If not what do you think is wrong with it and what do I need to do to make it healthy?

I assume this is a new limb forming? Am I correct?

Anything you could tell me would be great since I am new to the world of cacti.

Thanks,
Karen

It looks beautiful to me. The fuzz is/was a bloom. You're lucky...I grow mine indoors so I'll never see the beauties on my cactus. Whatever you''re doing---keep doing it!!!

Karen

Best I can tell from your photos, that's a good looking little pedro. You could always clean off some of the cobwebs with a little water but that sure ain't a big deal.

That's a very impressive cactus,

As a novice grower I have found the most important factor is to do plenty of research and when ever in doubt ask plenty of questions on forums like this.

I have found this link very useful http://www.cactus-mall.com/ccc/ .

Good luck growing your cactus.

I'm glad to hear it. Thanks for the input. That little flower bud just popped up recently. I figured it was doing well or else it probably wouldn't have put it out. I wasn't sure though because when I first got it I had to leave it unplanted longer then expected.

I am disappointed in a way that it is a flower though. I was hoping to get some good growth before this summer. With it putting all it's energy into flowering I probably won't see any change in size in the cactus. Oh well at least the flower should be pretty.

I know there are TONS of cobwebs on that sucker. The spiders just love making webs on it. I have already cleaned the webs off it a bunch of times but I have found it is pointless. They just like the cactus.

How long do you think that I should wait before cutting the cactus? I would like to start some more cuttings so that I can have multiple cacti. Where should I cut it? How much should I cut off it? Is it best to only cut cacti in the spring so that they have the summer time to produce all that new growth?

thanks,
Karen
