Planning first monotub, help a noob plz

Hey guys, I'm planning my first monotub, I've had very good results with dunk and rolled pint cakes, so this time I'm going for yield.
I'm planning to use a cooler, or maybe a plastic box, but most likely the cooler since it's not clear.
I'm planning to spawn inside the tub, here are my questions First - should I line the bottom of the cooler with substrate or moist verm? or neither? Second - I only have 1 1 pint cake, so I'm planning to add 10 times as much black kow compost, would that be too much? Could I add anymore than that if I need to? And finally, time may not permit me to first spawn and then add the casing layer after a few days as I was planning, would it be ok to add the casing layer right after mixing up the spawn?
thanks in advance

Line the bottom with a cut up black trash bag.
1:10 spawn ratio is a little bit on the short side, risk of contamination is higher.
You don't want to case just after spawning, but if you don't have the time when the moment comes, poo will fruit uncased, or you can do a late casing (search) once the pins have appeared.

I agree with Nibin. You want to wait until at least the bulk is completely colonized to case. Maybe longer. Some never case.
Read me. Read me.
If you are going to try a 1:10 ratio, make sure you pasteurize your bulk as well as you can, and sterilize the shit out of your cooler. Good luck.

Lines the side of the substrate stopping light from getting to the sides and bottom, avoiding that pesky side pinning.
And the best thing about it is that it even works on later flushes because as the substrate shrinks the plastic stays stuck to it.

word of advice IME black kow is not very good but will work , its just after much experimentation it was found that moonure yields much better, with the black kow you're gonna definatly want some shreded wheat straw in there good luck

Are you talking about Black Kow brand compost in the yellow bag? if so It will work , I mean you'll get great results but you can get better results from moonure of tenn stud. I'm not saying it's the worst but next time see what else you can find and experiment for yourself you'll see. good luck !!

I see, yeah its the yellow bag stuff, I got it because I think that was the only kind that Lowe's had, I think there was something else but there was other shit added in it, I got the black kow because it said it was 100% composted cow manure

coir or coir and coffee are real nice substrates too, i have never had a contam since i moved to coir, but straight black cow used to love to contam after the first or second flush (not saying this will happen to you, just presenting my personal experience). or even better add some coir, coffee, gypsum, and even some wheat straw to your black cow at whatever ratios you want (except add gypsum at about 10%) then use that in your monotub, guaranteed you will be happy about it later. Some very nice complex substrates can be achieved with simple to use ingredients that can be easily found around almost any town. just saying, keep your options open, there are many easy to make substrates that will substantially outperform black cow.
BTW, i use
a mix of about 10 quarts coir, 2 quarts spent coffee grounds, 1 quart gypsum, 1 quart black cow, and 1 quart finely shredded wheat straw for every 3 quarts spawn. always worked wonders for me.
edit: mushrooms like to have a nice (complex) balanced diet, just like us.
