Question about inoculation sterilization...and casing.

Inoculation. I'm using rye this method, and I made a small hole in the center for inoculation that I filled with polyfill(The stuff for the sides of mono tubs) so it would be as sealed as possible...I was wondering....Could I douse the Polyfill with alcohol to improve sterilization? and is it safe to use??? Being beside rye mycelium at all.
Casing Question.
After the jars Are shaken Could I mix it in a tray with wet vermiculite to have more of a solid and moisture filled tray?

i dont think it's necessary to douse the polyfill with alcohol because, from my understanding of how you have explained it, there is a risk of getting alcohol into the grains.. ..it might have a negative impact on the spores..
i dont know what that would do as far as inhibiting mycelium growth, but i assume that it's probably more harmful than h2o2 (hydrogen peroxide) which is used to treat some contams.. i dont believe this is necessary if you just make sure you flame sterilize needle/hold it in an alcohol-soaked paper towel before you inoc..
i wouldn't recommend using just vermiculite as a casing. search for casing mixes..
and have you considered spawning to bulk or poo?

I see what you mean as of the alcohol ...I'd like to hear other opinions To
As of the casing I'm thinking more like if I were to mix the wet vermiculite with the spawn like 50/50 maybe...
I think I might stick with soil...

Skip the alcohol polyfill and stick to flame sterilization. Tried, and true.
You gotta learn the terms buddy.. it makes understanding posts much easier. Your rye is spawn when you mix it into a bulk substrate. Your rye is just your substrate if you straight case it. I'm not trying to pick on you, it just helps figure out what you're talking about.
So, I guess I don't really know what you are trying to do with the verm... You want to mix it 50/50 with your rye and then case it? I wouldn't, personally. Seems like wasted effort, for minimal returns. I would spawn that rye to a bulk substrate for the best results.
