1 pound package of Calcium Sulphate(GYPSUM) Gypsum (calcium sulfate) adds permanent hardness (calcium ions) to brewing water; 1 gram per gallon adds 62 ppm calcium, 147 ppm sulfate.

No. Get it at a garden center for less than ten percent of that price. RR

i get mine at homebrew supply stores. and it'll probably be about the same (minus the shipping) at the brew store. i opted for this due to it already being a fine powder, and devoid of fiberglass.(sheetrock can contain it, apparently)
not that fiberglass is a problem or anything, i just hate it as a substance.
sure was getting tired of hammering a plastic bag with a chunk or two of sheetrock in it.

I get 25 pound bags of horticultural gypsum at the neighborhood nursery for $3. I've never heard of fiberglass in sheetrock. RR

this is just a guess as to what it is, but i find it to have some fibrous substance in the sheetrock (this is scrap from home building supply store)
it becomes more apparent when the sheetrock is weathered. in my case, a small square was left outside through the summer and rains, and afterwards, minute hairs of something were sticking out of the side that had deteriorated. the fibers themselves went into the gypsum and apparently was there as structural integrity or binding.
shrugs, not important. we all get our gypsum from different places, and it all works, small fibrous particles or not.
