i was having some dns issues... being that i couldnt resolve a single name, so i called at&t tech support. it went a little something like this:
Quote:
ts: (went through hello spiel, gave an american name, obviously indian (dot, not feather))
me: i need new dns addys. the ones you have on my dsl modem arent working.
ts: so you cant connect to the internet?
me: incorrect. i connect to everything just fine as long as i use the ip addy. if i try and use a fqdn, it wont resolve.
ts: can you go to google for me?
me: sure.
ts: can you see the google webpage?
me: yep
ts: thank you, sir. is there anything else i may help you with today?
me: yes. i need new dns server ip addys
ts: i dont understand
me: i am looking at the google webpage because you told me to go there. the problem is, i have to go to http://72.14.207.99 to get there. if i go to www.google.com, it gives me a page error because the page wont load.
ts: what kind of dsl modem do you have?
me: pretty pretty please with sugar on top, just give me new dns ips to put into the modem.
ts: what kind of dsl modem do you have?
me: (i give him the info)
ts: give me a second to run diagnostics your modem
(at this point, i start digging around for the ip addresses of a buddy of mine's dns server. i kill dhcp, assign myself a static ip, and set my dns server to my buddy's)
ts: sir, your modem seems to be ok. will you try to load google.com again?
me: listen, i am connected to irc and about 50 other computers via our respective ip addresses. i have no problem with connectivity. the problem is that your dns servers suck. i fixed the problem while you were running an unneeded test by using a friend's dns servers, but please tell whomever you get to talk to around the hookah that your dns servers suck ass and probably have way to many people trying to hit them at once.
ts: so it is fixed?
me: yes
ts: excellent, is there anything else i can do for you today?
me: yes, could you answer a question for me?
ts: sure, yes sir
/me puts on heavy souther accent
me: why can't a monkey with a wooden leg kick the seeds out of a pickle?
ts: (silence)
/me maintains southern accent
me: 'elloh. ya stil with me der, bud?
ts: i'm sorry?
me: why can't a monkey with a wooden leg kick the seeds out of a pickle?
ts: i'm sorry sir, i dont understand.
me: comeon now, mikey, i jusneed that info to git thuh thing goin.
ts: (silence)
me: yuh still with me der, bud?
ts: i dont understand
me: me neither
ts: Thank you, sir. You have a great day.
me: it's night

http://www.dslreports.com/
Go to Forums -> Direct Support -> AT&T Support
It worked wonders for me with my ISP. They are well known around here for the shit nature of their tech-support.
If it works like it did for me, it'll put you in touch with actual at&t techs

Can't breathe, laughing too hard.
I went into radioshack the other day and the guy didn't know what a fucking USB cable was.

If you want to hear some technology bullshit you should stop shopping online and go to a store with salesmen. Enjoy!

Definetly, I just went shopping for a new "smartphone", and the salespeople didn't know dick about the phones they were selling. The thing is, I had only been researching/shopping for about two weeks so I was clearly out of my element, yet I talked circles around the salespeople. I swear, the only thing you need to sell electronics at a major outlet is a pulse.
