The X in X-mas
    #7782077 - 12/20/07 03:34 PM (16 years, 3 months ago)

what the fuck does it stand for?

--------------------
Man is timid and apologetic; he is no longer upright; he dares not say "I think," "I am," but quotes some saint or sage. He is ashamed before the blade of grass or the blowing rose.Man postpones or remembers; he does not live in the present, but with reverted eye laments the past, or, heedless of the riches that surround him, stands on tiptoe to foresee the future. He cannot be happy and strong until he too lives with nature in the present, above time

there's some significance behind it involving greek letters or something. like X P (chi rho) stood for christ way back when during the birth of the roman catholic church.

a super catholic friend of mine got a tatoo with X superimposed on P and alpha and omega on either side of the symbol.

When the printing press came out they used a lot of abbreviations and started using the symbol X (chi) for christ.

Mary and Joseph were shity parents. Especially Joseph that was pissed about Mary's virgin baby. He didn't buy "god's story" and due to neglect Jesus never learned to read or write. (He was basicly a retard)When asked to sign his name he could only sign his name with a big X. When Jesus died the other illiterates honored him by keeping the tradition.

SDSTAFF Mac replies:

Well, that letter may look like an "X" and walk like an "X" and quack like an "X," but it isn't an "X." That's the Greek letter "chi" which is pronounced about like "ch" was in Old English ... which is to say, about how it's pronounced in German today, or in a few imported words, like "Christ" or "Christmas," for example.

"X" (as in chi) was used as an abbreviation for Christ from early times, perhaps initially as a camouflage for the religion. It was the first letter of the word Christos (meaning "the anointed one," e.g., the Messiah) and fortuitously was cross-shaped, so there seemed to be some symbolism or double meaning. It's been used as a scholarly and not-so-scholarly abbreviation since.

Republican Values:

1) You can't get married to your spouse who is the same sex as you.
2) You can't have an abortion no matter how much you don't want a child.
3) You can't have a certain plant in your possession or you'll get locked up with a rapist and a murderer.

4) We need a smaller, less-intrusive government.

on top of that, Joseph accused mary of whoring around and called her shennanigans on her story of "uh uh uh god hath blessed me with a child with divine seed" thus slamming a shovel over..

lol but yeah

December 25th is a pagan holiday the church adopted long ago, even though that has nothing to do with this topic.........

We got "No X-ing" road signs.
I always just figured "X" was an interchangeable "criss" or "cross" kind of thing.

Either that or maybe you're thinkin' Futurama?  :awesome:
