i feel stuck in the same place mentally and emotionally. is there any easy answer to get out of this? trying new things? i feel like whenever trying new things i am not really doing anything new, just repeating the same exact same thing.

Care to elaborate on your situation?
You in school? Work? Many friends? Are they assholes? Live with parents?
Just curious. I am no one to give advise, but in my experience, changing things up a bit is a great way to forget about how boring life can be sometimes. New job, new girlfriend, new city, new friends...who knows.
Easier said than done too, especially if you are not forced to do so.

I feel ya man, I feel like I've been in limbo for the past year...it sucks. I think I may have to pack up just a few things and move to a new city where I don't know anyone; basically start my life from scratch. For a long time I loomed over the ideas that my life either needs to take off and go somewhere interesting or just fall apart completely.
My advice is to do something which will alter your consciousness - and not just temporarily. Meditate, do yoga, qigong, magick, etc.

Thanks for the advice. I did meditate before but now I feel like it's just not enough, I need a major change. I gotta get out of this city

Don't just do different things, do difficult things. I'd bet it's looking for that easy answer that's keeping you in a rut. If you only do easy things you'll only do things you're comfortable with, which leads to being stuck. I'm very familiar with that pattern.
Try learning a new language or a new instrument; try meeting new people; maybe try a different job; take up a new hobby.

It all depends on how you look at your life... because from one perspective, you essentially are doing the same thing over and over in different ways. But isn't that what life's all about?

That's pretty good advice. The way I interpret this may be what you're talking about or not. There are things that you do (routine, your "rut" things) and things that you DO; Things that you DO you act with gusto and enthusiasm! You feel surges of energy coming from deep inside of yourself because this is it, you're really engaged. To me these feelings remind me of the saying "It was really a breath of fresh air." Because it feels like a fresh piece of life is happening - it's new and seemingly unique, even if you *have* done it before, even a million times.
I can give myself this feeling through three different actions: dancing, singing and playing guitar. By dancing I don't mean bobbin your head and tappin your foot, but letting the music move your body for you - complete release. Singing is pretty much the same, where I don't just elongate words in different pitches, but I really push with my diaphragm and *feel* the words spew out. Guitar is really not that much different either...it's when I get so wrapped up in playing that it becomes a meditation; I'm not trying anymore, it just happens - usually I start groovin my body at the same time lol...
Now hopefully you see the trend here and understand that this can be done with anything. I personally have found arts to be much more geared towards these raw experiences, but I have had intellectually "zen" moments also.
After I've had one of these experiences I feel invigorated and ALIVE. Many times I wind up putting a lot of things together in my life at this point, or starting new things, moving, changing, living...
