USA and Ireland dual citizen?
    #7779859 - 12/19/07 10:42 PM (16 years, 3 months ago)

I found out a little while ago that because my grandmother was born in Ireland, I have an opportunity to apply for American and Irish dual citizenship. Apparently, If I have citizenship in Ireland I can live, work, and buy property anywhere in the EU.

Application fees aside, this sounds pretty good. Anybody gone ahead and done this? I feel foolish for having waited this long, as the laws could change and this opportunity lost. My uncle just got his application accepted two years after filing, and he thinks I should go for it.

i think you should go for it as well...to take advantage of the fact that you are even applicable for it.

it will make traveling via the US and the EU much easier...you don't have to wait in any customs queue

but, i'm not sure if it will run out at all..the US has quite a good relationship with ireland partly due to the stronghold of many immigrants from ireland that moved to the US long ago.

I live here already... in Ireland. My hair isn't red (we call it ginger over here, and people who have it gingers, they have no soul and are shunned by all) it isn't curly and i don't think I've ever even seen a wooden handled mug. Here does the sand and the camel rug come into all this eh? This conon o brien fellow... what does he rule? is he your leader? whats a conon anyhow?

iam trying to get my dual citizenship and eu passport through italy, my story is pretty much the same as yours... good luck. dont know about ireland but italy is really bueracratic so it takes like a year for them to process the citizen application. the paperwork is super detailed and bullshit also...but worth the trouble imo.
