pcmcia wireless cards

I'm looking for a good pcmcia wireless card (preferably one that allows you to screw in a high gain, external antenna), and one that allows me to scan..
Also it has to be somewhat inexpensive.. I've done some research and orinoco cards seem to stand out; any recommendations?

depending on what you want to do, a USB interface may work well for you too. Some people make antanae/cards that are combined into the antanae housing, and are powered by the USB line.
This eleminates the problem of the signal loss over the antanae line, and the fragility of the antanae lines.
These can have good range, and I believe they can scan, depending on the card ( I think Ralink makes some good ones).

I don't know if you were responding to me, probably not, but lets pretend, shall we?
w/ me, I just wanted to mess w/ it a little bit, as it was an excuse to try linux and shit
Plus I share a neighbor's internet connection, and my USB extender is a lot cheaper than good-quality antanae wire, and alot easier to connect to your laptop than is antana wire, and less problems w/ breakage, shit like that.
But for 80$ you can get an integrated NIC and antanae... something like 32 dcbm combined NIC plus antanae, w/ 18 dBm antanae.
pretty good range, selectivity, et cet.

oh, and what I was talking about, which uses rt2500 chipset, would go into monitor mode for scanning w/ various utilities like airodump and airopeek and whatever, but I don't know if theres an easy way to get it to work with packet injection
When I tried I seemed to have trouble with it, and I recall there being talk that this chipset, and w/ the USB interface, wouldn't work easily with this.
So if your trying to crack a network, not a good choice, but if you just want monitor mode, good range, cheap, and more durable than antanae wire, a USB interface might be a good choice for you. Works great w/ sharing a connnection over a long distance, for me.

Well I already made a ghetto assed parabolic sieve antenna, which houses my usb dongle thing (I probably get about 3-5db gain off of it, its pretty good really), but its passive and can't scan
Thanks for the link, sketchydelux
