Trimming Filter Disks

Anyone have a good system for trimming filter disks?
I bought a $1.50 modelers knife (like a scalpel) and that wore out fast and didn?t cut real well. Next I bought a better modelers knife for $5, it has replaceable blades but isn?t much better. What works, a surgeons scalpel?
What about gluing a small piece of the disk to the inside of the plastic lids with the hole in them? Any luck with that? What kind of glue holds up in the pressure cooker?

I think you can get a special epoxy for to withstand the heat and humidity of a pressure cooker... I know for a fact becuase I tried several brand of epoxy and ended up getting a special glue becuase I wanted to put hot water in a bong that I made myself... Kinda sucks to be half baked and have a rush of scalding water fill your loins... As far as a cutting method... I have no clue, perhaps drawing a line with a pen around a coke can or a lid to create a nice circle, then cut on the line with the scalpel with wood backing, or use scissors...
Oh, and you can change your title yourself now, wasn't it "Psycho Dad" ?

Not to get too far OT here, but WHY would you want to put HOT water in your bong???

>>What works, a surgeons scalpel?<<
Well, if you're using the Magick Micron filter discs and are looking to trim off the excess after screwing the lids on the jars, my cat has found that a basic box cutter with replacable razor blades works pretty well. If you're trying to cut it down to a specific size/shape, I would draw a line with a sharpie and use scissors.
>>What about gluing a small piece of the disk to the inside of the plastic lids with the hole in them?<<
I have a friend who found out that gluing the filter to the inside of the lid is a bad idea, as it exposes the filter fiber to the substrate when shaken. This makes the filter nutritious, and allows the growth of contams on and through the filter.

FanaTEK is right on the money. Boxcutter & lotsa break away blades, is it. One of those small electric fabric scissors also works, just not quite as neatly around the edge as razor sharp blades. You can get them electric scissors cheap at fabric stores. SixTango

Even better - wait until winter and pack your bong full of (non-yellow) snow.
Chillin'!

Yes I am trimming the Filter Disks with the lid on so no disk hangs down. I always put downward pressure on the disk as I?m trimming. So I took everyone?s advice and bought a Stanley box cutter with breakaway blades.
I used it on 12 jars and it cut 100% better and the blade is still good with 12 more breakaways just waiting. The replaceable X-acto blades were finished after 12 jars. The Stanley has 13 blades in the stick for $2; the X-acto is 5 in a pack for $3, you do the math.
And to TheShroomHermit, hu, I didn?t even notice I lost my Psycho Dad moniker, good memory! Done deal, thanks.
