Would some one give me a link to a good bird seed tek? I want to try a bird seed cake, where I would grind the bird seed in place of the brf. And what strain would you recommend. I have treasure coast, EQ'S, and PESA on there way Thanks all

Ive doen that tek, and it HAS worked, but Ive heard so much about simmering birdseen and whatnot, and I got a reply saying to just soak overnight. I wonder if all are the same, or some have some advantages... Id like to know more about different methods of preparing birdseed. ANno, if you're around, please explain your birdseed preperation!!

i have tried simmering my bird seed to make my own after i purchased several pre-made jars of seed and it didnt work! simmering introduces too much moisture into the seeds and the split and explode and get mushy. i would definitely suggest just soaking them overnight and then draining them really well b4 putting them in jars! good luck

I've had luck doing a number of different things with WBS.
The best way I've found is an overnight soak with a good long drain afterwords. Load this into your jars about 3/4 of the way full and PC. That has worked for me but I know that for a lot of people soaking and then simmering for 10 minutes without letting it boil works best, then draining and loading into jars to PC.
Just try a couple things that you're comfortable with and then use what works best for you.
Or just follow this method http://www.shroomery.org/9032/6T-WBS-Tek-Wild-Bird-Seed-Bulk-Spawn-Preparation-Method

Use rye instead.
WBS has shells and husks that can be hard to colonize and usually resulting in contamination.
Rye has no shell or husk so it is the preferred grain, it is also very cheap from feed stores. I buy it for 30# for a little over $5

Good luck with the bird seed cake Idea... Dunno if its worth the effort though.
To prepare Birdseed I Use this method.
Fill your jars half way with Rinsed(clean) Birdseed. Add water until the birdseed is fully submerged. Every 6 hours or so, check the water level. You will find that the water level has dropped below the top of the birdseed. That is becuase it is getting soaked up by the birdseed.
Keep adding water untill the birdseed is fully saturated and not taking on anymore water.
You will know when the water level doesn't drop any longer. Usually one full day, 2 at most. Pour off the excess water and they are ready to Sterilize.
I found this Idea on the Shroomery, not sure who came up with it(thanks whomever you are!)
It fully saturates the WBS without question every time. Much faster colonization, less contams.
I haven't near as much success with any other Teks.

I actually figured out if you mix just the water and the brf and mix that really well first then mix in half of the verm and then mix in the other half vermiculite it goes way faster and it doesn't take for ever to mix
