Yeah sure.. aluminum, the best nutritious layer you can get :)!!
And did the myc also managed to consume the hand (or whatever that is on the left)?

yeah it looks like the mycelium grow through the aluminium, not eat it...

Well it may not have exactly eatin it, but the metobolites certainly must have broken down the alum, Aluminium doesnt oxidise that quickly (if it does at all)

So something must have put holes in it.

Is Aluminium foil amphoteric, possibly causing it to disolve with either excess acid or alkali?

Metabolites, acid or alkali?

I also quite like this idea...myc batteries!!!

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aluminium_foil#Criticism
"It is also unwise to cook a highly acidic food in an iron vessel, then cover the leftovers in aluminium foil, because if the foil touches the food, a simple battery is created. The foil rapidly dissolves into the food, leaving dull grey dregs."

Actually, aluminium is one of the most reactive metals out there, but the oxide forms a protective layer on the outside. That is why aluminium is corroded so easily by the mycelium.

This link is a little off-topic, but it backs up the fact that some mycelium metabolites will break down aluminum.
